If you have to cancel they will lie through their teeth and take you to court. They are a ruthless, unprofessional bunch of cowboys.

As frequent cottage bookers we've found cottages.com to be average overall and will doubtless book again with them in the future but don't buy their insurance when booking. We had to cancel a booking as our house flooded and found that the holiday cost wasn't covered for cancellation. Their insurance is therefore inadequate and we know from being a past owner that they will try and re-let, trousering any revenue for themselves.

The poorest of customer service, who when they do daine to reply to a query are happy to distance themselves from ownership of the issue and direct you to the accommodations owner. The website is counter tuitive. Basically they add neither value either to the consumer or accommodation owners, if you can avoid.

Holiday booked for Christmas 2019. Paid low deposit if £30 as booked 12 months in advance.
Unfortunately due to hospital procedure have to cancel holiday.
Rang Cottages.com who want another £170 to cancel booking even though 3 months in advance!!!! No exceptions.
They offered to move booking for us at an additional cost of £50!!!
ABTA covered but not if booking in this country.
Won't be booking with these again.
Appreciate loss of £30 deposit but to want more to cancel for genuine reason is outrageous.

Booked and paid in full for a week's stay at a cottage of our choice for 14th September to 21st September. THREE DAYS before we were due to travel Cottages.com informed us the property was no longer available!. I thought they must be having a Giraffe. All geared up, bags packed, house sitter arranged and no where to go. Disappointed was an understatement. They offered us five alternatives but all were unsuitable for our needs. Can they really treat people like this?. Obviously THEY CAN. Well not no more. Quick return of my money back into my account though.

so decided to give them another chance, was disappointed, firstly the site staff were perfect very polite and if you need them also helpful,
however, we read the comments in the visitor comments book and the comments were what we found to be unacceptable so they clearly don't care once your holiday is paid for.
They asked that we leave a review for them on their web site clearly so that they can monitor what comments are entered, anyway, we left the review not a complementary one either, no action has been taken at all no response from them just totally ignored, will we be using them again we don't think so we prefer to deal with companies that have customer service as a priority Cottages .com clearly do not operate a customer service.

Our family New Year holiday has been cancelled by cottages.com as it's now a higher price. I'm certain this is not allowed and will be sending a complaint to Watchdog. We only have three nights away a year and we're hugely disappointed.

Recently booked our summer 2020 holiday with Cottages.com but it will probably be the last time. Last year they accepted a booking for our usual cottage but failed to tell us that the cottage had been sold and was not being let out again. We only found out from the owners when we visited earlier in the year.
This time they have surpassed their incompetence. Having accepted a booking and taken the deposit they ring up to say the price quoted was wrong and the actual price was £600 more. Yes SIX HUNDRED POUNDS.
they did offer a £150 discount which reluctantly we have had to accept but we are less than impressed and will be looking for alternatives next time.
I suggest others proceed with caution.

We stayed In Weavers Cottage in Pickering- it was a lovely well equipped cottage that was recently updated to a high standard - booking was easy and we were totally satisfied with the service and communications from both the company and the owners who added the personal touch - we look forward to our next break

Charged us an extra £440, we were sent the actual bill from the cottage owners which was £440 less than what we were charged! I understand booking fees but an extra £440 there is NO justifying that! We were fobbed off and told some ridiculous story of it being to do with advertising the cottage!? Why are WE paying for your advertising!? This family of 10 will certainly not be using cottages.com again, tl;dr trying to take as much money off you as possible with no evidence as to why!

Have booked with Cottages.com three times. First booking was great, no issues. Second booking was a luxury property for Christmas, which was anything but luxury. Complained to Cottages.com, response OK and offered a voucher for money off on next booking. Used voucher towards our family holiday in Wales in August 2019. Property was shocking. Bedroom doors on latches! One fell shut, no spare keys anywhere, owner away on holiday, cottages.com no help at all! Had to call out locksmith to get the door open! Took Cottages.com nearly three weeks to reimburse me. Not much of a response when I complained. Would never use them again. Properties on their books are clearly not inspected/ reinspected regularly - shocking! Have asked Cottages.com repeatedly to send me a link, so I can leave a review on their website about the property in Wales - no response.

I booked a cottage last Monday and waited to get a confirmation email saying my booking had been processed. I waited a week with no reply, so I called them to double check. They said that they'd emailed me - which they didn't and that they called me - which they hadn't. They said the house was no longer available but when I went back online and also checked other sites, it said the house was available.
I think it's false advertising if you book, put your card details in, pay the deposit and then they say it's no longer available. We made plans around this booking and now have to change everything because the lack of communication on cottages.com's behalf. I find it mind boggling that they take the deposit payment before the house has even been confirmed.
I will NEVER be using cottages.com again, as Air BnB is much easier to use, there's a lot more information, no payment is required unless the property is available and you can communicate a lot easier with the property owners.
If you want a stress free, easy experience when booking accommodation AVOID cottages.com. They've ruined our plans, and I'm just grateful I planned enough in advance to make a back up plan.

We made a booking through Booking.com so may be their fault, received confirmation then got phoned later in the week to say it can’t be done and the booking isn’t happening. Already booked the pets kennels so last minute rush. Earlier this year booked cottage through them direct and it was a wreck, shower too small to stand in, paintwork last done in the 1960s or so it looked. Fridge worked intermittently, dishwasher didn’t work but nobody else complained so nothing done. Never bothered inspecting it. Chimney blocked by birds nest so don’t use it this year! Place had bad smell and no timer on hot water so the boost had to be pressed an hour before getting up.
Never again will we use them, a disaster of a business.

I found the process to view and book a cottage which was my first with cottages.com to be slick, efficient and quick. The information I was given following the booking was exactly spot on to make the experience straight forward. I would have no hesitation in the future of booking again with cottages .com.

Currently staying in a cottage in France booked through this company. Cottage not at all welcoming, cluttered with bric a brac (not one surface clear to put our stuff on), fridge not on, surface clean only, ancient towels and bedding (fitted sheets with elastic gone), beds not comfortable - tiny double. Light bulbs gone. Not even any loo paper.
Email company - it bounces. Phone - not open until Monday and no answerphone. Local contact - well we tried to phone her to complain about the beep from the entrance door (every 3 seconds and audible everywhere) but she just said “it’s electric” and hasn’t bothered to show up despite living next door.
Can’t recommend anything here ...

We stayed at te "Little England Cottaghe annexe" during the last week in July 2019, it is beautiful, clean and freshly decorated throughout. An ideal location in a village from which to explore Dorset. Only 7 miles from Dorchester and Blandford Forum, The village has an excellent pub that serves excellent meals. The village shop sells all you require when self catering. We found the cottage annexe ideal for my wife and myself, and close to the countryside, we could hear the occasional sheep, cow and horse in the nearby fields, plus an owl in a nearby tree.

My wife booked a cottage with 3 bedrooms or so we thought for a family break. She paid the full cost at the time of booking. This was a last minute booking for the following week. The purpose of our break was for us to remember, rest and reflect as my wife and her family had just lost a very close family member, (brother & son) and the previous 6 weeks had been exhausting, stressful and emotional. My wife was informed that the cottage was not as advertised and only had 2 bedrooms, a super king size downstairs and twin upstairs. My Mother-in-Law is almost 85 and crippled with arthritis- she is unable to manage stairs! My wife asked if the beds could be swapped to twin beds downstairs. She was informed that they would need to ask the owner but would also get their locations team to find another cottage in the same area for the same cost. She waited 7 days but did not hear from them and then contacted them to be informed that the owner of the cottage had not got back to them and the locations team had not been asked to look for another cottage! We were due to arrive the next morning and had no idea whether my Mother-in-Law’s need would be catered for! As it was we did have twin rooms downstairs & it was the best cottage we have stayed in. However, the stress we went through right up until we arrived at a time when we are grieving as a family was wholly unacceptable, avoidable and unnecessary! No-one kept us updated and no-one followed up with the owner when he did not get back to them. We feel this was a completely unprofessional service which left us anxious and dissatisfied.
