As an Occupational Therapist I was curious to see how this trip would be tailored to meet the needs of V.I.Ps. I was extremely impressed with the way that Buck oriented people to places, described landscapes, and objects of interest, tailored activities to be sensory explorations and mapped out routes that were guide dog friendly. Buck is passionate about travel and is a wealth of knowledge!
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and will definitely be recommending it to my participant's and my colleagues.
Thanks for an awesome time in Port Douglas!

I went on the late July sensory short break to Port Douglas, along with a ssmall group of other adventurers. Thanks to Buck, I was able to meet the challenges of navigating independently between my solo hotel room to and from the hotel reception and restaurant where breakfast and some other meals were served. I had a very full long weekend and would encourage others on this trip to take the plunge in Mossman River, to lash out on the hot air ballooning option - it was a VERY early morning but it really was worth every cent and second of lost sleep. Buck carefully selected the activities and managed the group dynamics brilliantly. I would highly recommend Cocky Guides tours to other blind and low-vision people looking to stretch their boundaries or just those just looking for a brilliant experience outside their everyday life.

Recently i went on a sensory short break to canberra and the snowy mountains. I had never encountered snowfields before, so must thank cocky guides for that wonderful opportunity. We were introduced to two more brilliant leaders, pete and ben, which meant more vision impaired travellers could also participate. Every new experience was positive, people were cheerful and relaxed, and as per usual help was freely and readily given in a professional and friendly way. All five travellers wanted more snow play, and are enthusiastic to come back next winter! These short breaks are a great way to socialise, normalise travel while feeling completely safe and ked after. Also don’t be afraid to laught and muck around. Oh, the war memorial and some of its tactile features were very interesting too.rr

Great time at Port Douglas. Although there was an issue with my room and reported to Cocky Guides. The issue was fixed straight away. Very impressive. The holiday was flexible for me because my long time friend from Cairns was able to book the same accommodation to spend time with me for a day and a half. The other days I spent time with the guests. We were very well looked after. I do recommend for other vision impaired and blind people to give yourself a go to try one of Cocky Guides tours.

Oh cocky guides has done it again! Seriously my short break to Byron Bay and Nimbin was absolutely fantastic ! I was looked after at all times from the time I arrived at the airport to the time I left the tour back in Sydney town. The accommodation caverns were excellent fairly spacious clean neat and tidy and all staff was so friendly and helpful and the pool area was great! . The food was a great standard and very yummy !The cafe a and restaurants that we chose were awesome, some of them were certainly funky and unique to the area so good . Walking through Nimbin and having many unusual unique shops describe to us and having choices of where we go was so very special. I love the fact that we had quite a lot of choice in what we did . I also thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the special unique aspects of the area going to the cool brewery and learning about all different types of beers and delicious taste testing travelling on the solar power train now that was fun! What a great way to restore old trains wow, being able to go up front and talk to the drivers of the train and talk direct to the guys wow! How interesting. Discovering all the wonderful shots and the people in the area just fantastic. It definitely is a tour that highlights all your senses. I love the local pub and the great music and the locals it was a fantastic group that we were with such fun! The beaches we went to was fantastic absolutely beautiful .I would definitely recommend this to her for anyone that would like to discover the Byron Bay and Nimbin area well worth unique discoveries that’s for sure!

Recently, a friend and i travelled by plane to port douglas with buck, our cocky guide. from beginning to end, buck was supportive, encouraging and accommodating, helping us through airport protocol, reading menus, sighted guiding, describing and tactilely demonstrating scenery, artwork, animal keeper presentations. we also spent a day with michele, another cocky guide, who was brilliant at describing and pointing things out on the train to koorandah, and the village itself. i won’t give any of the itinerary away because i want other travellers to experience it for themselves .. here are a few cryptic clues ... cassowary, lagoon, buttress roots ...
as usual, i thoroughly enjoyed buck’s laidback support and great company. i urge anyone to give cocky guides a go, as nothing is stressful, rushed, or too much hassle for the cocky guides. enjoy!😍

Amazing and awesome Cocky Guides! No stress, no pressure, well informed and organised day trips and short breaks. I have just done Barangaroo and Bridge Walk, never done it before. I felt relaxed and taking in descriptions along with history in the area around me. I am looking forward for my next three short breaks coming up. Try one day trip and see it for yourself, nothing ventured, nothing gained. :-)

Buck was excellent at managing our group of 14 and made sure everyone got to experience everything on the tour. His enthusiasm was contagious, his knowledge top notch and his ability to involve a group of vision impaired people and keep their attention for a full day was magnificent. I would definitely recommend his services and am keen to go on a tour in my own city, Melbourne.

My trip to Port Douglas was absolutely amazing! I had never been to that part of Australia and wow the experience that I had was absolutely mind blowing! The exciting smells of the wonderful Mossman gorge far out some of the plants that were pointed out to us that we could touch and feel . The opportunity to swim in Mossman gorge was such a wonderful privilege from our first peoples. The water was so crisp and apparently clear, really freezing! straight from the mountains it was magic. Walking along the winding moving bridge wow and listening to the forest with the gush of the water going over the rocks, the smell and sound of the forest it was so alive. Then the contrast of the opportunity to walk around Port Douglas and do some browsing of shops whilst one of the travellers was having a therapeutic massage and treatment opportunity .Some of us walked along the huge beach and I could Free run my guide dog was brilliant! Having the sand between your toes and listen to the ocean and the smell of the ocean in contrast to the rainforest was such diversity in the area of experiences definitely heightening all our senses that’s for sure. We travelled on an old train going up into the mountains are stopped at one of the stations got out and was able to listen to again the magic sounds of the forest and the huge waterfall in front of us with four tears to it and each tear had a pool of water at sounded and the description by Jeanette was awesome! When we got to the top you could actually feel the altitude you could feel it in your lungs and you could feel it against your skin and the smell of the forest was amazing. We got out and walked to local markets which was a little bit hippie and then part of the contest was very arty I love the variety and uniqueness of the area. We also stopped and had lunch. The opportunity to go to A hidden teahouse in the forest where they grow so many varieties of tropical fruit that come from all over the world . Having lunch there was Such an experience that I’ll never forget, having slivers of different varieties of tropical fruit on your plate and then one of the gentleman coming in describing each individual fruit and allowing you the opportunity to taste smell and touch and discover fruit that you may have never experienced prior I’ll always be such an experience that I’ll never forget, having slivers of different varieties of tropical fruit on your plate and then one of the gentleman coming and describing each individual fruit and allowing you the opportunity to taste smell and touch and discover fruit that you may have never experienced prior It will always be etched in my mind . We also had the chance to touch and feel the fruit as a whole after lunch and I can’t believe that there’s a fruit that taste like chocolate, yes believe it or not we had an amazing desert made from this fruit and it truly did taste like chocolate wow! Coming home from an activity and pulling over by the roadside and listening to a sugar cane train go past with a little bit of history given to us was just one of the unique experiences that only cocky guides was able to fully utilise for our experience . Another chance that we had was pulling over and finding with one of the local guides that had joined cocky guides Janette finding a group of female crocodiles basking in the sun on the beach, getting out of the car and being able to view them at a safe distance and having them described wow ! Driving into cans whilst having the foreshore described incredibly well to us and then going to Palm Cove I think that’s the name and walking along the jetty. Listening to the sounds of the ocean which was quite choppy and feeling strong breeze on our face and smelling the ocean and would’ve had to offer All whilst it was quite warm which was unusual for me. Then having the scenery describes so beautifully I felt so alive . My guide dog was enjoying the jetty and definitely enjoy the tour that’s for sure . Being taken to a crocodile farm oh yes a real crocodile farm and listening to the talks and learning so many things being able to touch and feel some of the animals and some of the reptiles. Being taken in a boat into a man-made lagoon while spotting crocodiles and having an excellent commentary given to us with extra input from cocky guides to describe but you could see . The whole time on the tour I felt safe and in excellent experienced hands . The resort accommodation was brilliant, meals were definitely well organised end of a very high quality. I loved the fact that we had constant choice of what we wanted to do particularly at meal time. Some of us chose to experience ballooning wow! To hear their experience was priceless. I couldn’t believe that I had the chance to swim in the resort and it’s winter, to me that was incredibly foreign coming from New South Wales Sydney The entire tour was definitely professionally well orchestrated . I would like to take the opportunity to thank James Mcfarlane nicknamed or known as Buck and Janette for the most wonderful experience in travel. I’m so excited to know that now I can trust and experience travel safely and with such fun and simplicity, all whilst highlighting or utilising all my other senses, thanks to Cocky Guides adventures. I will definitely be back and so looking forward to New magical discoveries, whilst highlighting all my other senses, so fantastic thank you heaps guys you’re awesome!!!

we travelled from Sydney to Canberra and the snowy Mountains with cocky guides. What a fantastic experience! We were well supported by our tour guide and support worker. It was wonderful to travel with a group of people who are blind or vision in paired. We visited the Parliament house and war museum in Canberra, then had a day at the snow at charlottes pass. Having a supported travel experience really in Hants our enjoyment of travelling to interesting destinations. Cocky guides fulfils a gap in the area of vision impaired tourism in Australia. We really look forward to travelling with cocky guides again on other occasions.

Lucky enough to do a day trip to The Hunter Valley with Cocky Guides, there were 36 people on the bus and everyone of them had a great day. Well done to our driver "Buck" who is excellent in dealing with customers who have a disability such as low vision and blindness, Buck is very caring and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cocky Guides.
