I've bought multiple bikes from City Grounds. A BMX and a fixie. Both time the bikes came on-time. Their support staff is amazing!

Terrible customer service. Frame arrived damaged and their response was "take it up with the manufacturer." Would never buy from them again.

I recently purchased a bike on CityGrounds.com, only to find that they misrepresented the product and when caught - they had no interest in fairly resolving the issue. Here’s the short version - I bought a bike they listed as a ‘fixie’, but when my order arrived it was a freewheel single speed with no possibility of running as a fixed gear bike. I did not want a refund, I wanted what was advertised and what I paid for. Aside from offering me a used wheel from their warehouse, they had no intention of making this right. The Customer Service rep (which also happened to be the Operating Manager of the company) was not willing to do anything beyond sending out that used/refurbished wheel or to take the bike back for a refund - neither of which were acceptable solutions. I actually got my fastest response from them when I filed a review with the Better Business Bureau, and that response was only to say that *I* was somehow in error for thinking that ‘fixie’ meant fixed-gear. He tried to say that ‘fixie’ is a non-technical term and does not specifically mean “fixed gear bicycle”. Ha ha, I guess anyone can rely on “alternative facts” these days. Just to be sure, I verified my assumption about what the term meant - a quick check with wikipedia left no ambiguity. I called a couple of the local bike shops and the guy at the last one actually laughed out loud, then a gave a good natured reprimand for buying from some faceless storefront. Ha ha, point well taken, Sir!
In my experience, these people are shady right to the end. Here are a couple of suggestions that may help you avoid the problems I experienced:
First - be absolutely sure about what you’re ordering. I’d recommend fact-checking the CityGrounds.com listing against the manufacturer’s website. My experience showed a clear and deliberate misrepresentation on their part. Checking the manufacturers specs and questioning any discrepancies with them BEFORE making your purchase should help to mitigate this problem.
Second - if you do find a problem with your order, don’t expect any help from them in making it right. You may be able to get a refund, but you’re in for disappointment if you expect them to make good on their false advertising.
Finally - don’t expect any sort of apology if they do make an error. In his first message, he started with “Sorry to hear about your experience…”. Aside from that, he never apologized for the false listing, for rejecting all reasonable resolutions that I suggested or for failing to offer a fair solution in response.
You’d probably be better off to choose another retailer, but if you do decide to do business with CityGrounds - just do what you can to make sure that what they’re offering is actually something that exists in the real world and not just a false listing fabricated for their website.
