Received an item after weeks, the item turned out to be fake, called them, was told they had already processed the payment, the seller gave a tracking number but didn't post for ages. They never handle an item, so you could end up bidding on something but getting something totally else, if you try to call them, their line charges premium

Careful of this site. They do not look after buyers. The feedback system is shocking and hard to use. They allow people to sell broken items and you havent a leg to stand on. Very disappointed in them.

I finally did get a refund for the damaged fossil but it was an onerous process - emails back and forth with them, back and forth with the seller, waiting, etc. Sucked up my time for an issue that should not have been that big of a deal, since I provided photos of the damage to everyone, as well as the postal receipt for the return. They might want to instruct sellers to CAREFULLY package fragile materials - some do, some don't. I think they are still having growing pains. A negative aspect is, it's not like an actual auction where you can preview the merchandise - so, you're dependent on photographs to make a bid decision or not.

If you buy one thing and the seller is honest,
Then every thing is good.
But if the seller is dishonest, then it is very BAD.
Catawiki do not help you!
They just let the money to the seller, then its over.
So its a big gamble because no security at all from Catawiki
only charge big commissions!

I never expected to have such piece of luck to buy a Bruno Cantais. After visiting so many museums of abstract expressionism, i share mi deepest admiration for the above painter and can only say it Will be a matter of time before his work can be witnessed next to a Willem de Koonig, Rauschenberg or Poons. Still cannot believe...thanks Mr Bruno Cantais

Seller wants to cancel order. Money stuck at catawiki for over a week now. With bad intent, should be refunded faster, especially when high amounts of money at stake. Unlike the answer below insinuates, I did not receive a mail to request for a response (only from [email protected] address). Only the statement that the seller is being contacted again ...and again to ask for shipment. He doesn't want to. The item wasn't even his to sell, but his grandmother's. Please just refund already!

My name is Angelika Bes
My name is Angelika Bes , I am a painter and over last 2 years I have sold 260 paintings via Catawiki.
Average auction price: 120 euro for a painting.
Not much, right?
I would like to share my experience of working with Catawiki as a seller.
First of all: Why would an artist who is currently selling for 1500 euro (for a painting) in regular, land-based galleries start selling her work via Catawiki?
Because in Netherlands Catawiki put a lot of galleries out of business.
I was previously working with 2 galleries, one in Hilversum and the second in Amsterdam, but both closed their business in 2017.
And there are thousands of artist like me.
The only way to keep painting while hoping to find another gallery to work with, is to give art away almost for free.
And this is where Catawiki comes in.
Their aggressive policy of "no reserve price" is the basis of their rapid growth. It attracts rich and poor from all over the world, looking for a bargain.
Catawiki shows to the world that art is cheap.
By accepting their rules (which are not negotiable) a seller is obliged to sell for whatever the highest bid is. I was forced to sell and deliver my paintings , which were sometimes sold for no more than 6 and 15 euro.
I have suggested (over 20 times) to introduce a minimal price (of let’s say 50 to 75 euro) to be introduced for art auctions. It was completely ignored.
One of Catawiki’s experts once told me to make an account on Saatchi if I want good prices.
Something about Catawiki experts.
After working with them you start to understand that they are not functioning as art experts. They value artist only on bases on previously selling achievements.
Complaints from buyers are important to them as well.
In the moment when I got into my first conflict with them and refused to assist I was THROWN out and my account was closed.
Their official reasoning from them was "shill bidding" .
No proves for that whatsoever were provided by them though.
About Catawiki’s customer service.
It is good! I have used it about 20 times and they do their job politely and quickly .
But it is a common mistake to think that they are on either buyers or sellers side. They are on only 1 side and that is Catawiki’s. All disputes will be managed the way it is good for Catawiki.
They neither are interested to protect sellers, neither in creating any kind of sustainable business relationships. They treat sellers as temporary visitors.
My general impression of Catawiki is that it is a company avoiding transparency and changing its own rules to hide not very clear operations .
For example. They have introduced rating system for all sellers.
Catawiki has a lot of sellers with very bad ratings (from their buyers). What do they do? They came out with a smart trick of showing ratings only for the past 12 months.
This allowed them to remove any bad histories, but to keep the seller.
Interesting fact is that Catawiki had a rating system on their Facebook account, where both buyers and sellers could give their feedback. They have REMOVED it.
Catawiki art had very bad rating, it was around 3. They have removed the Catawiki art page on Facebook completely!
Another interesting fact is that Catawiki tolerates copies and plagiarism.
Every auction, where my paintings were placed had at least a few paintings of other sellers, which were copies of modern artists.
Weekly general auctions are full of copies, which are presented as original works.
Due to extremely high supply Catawiki will continue to offer artwork for free.
I believe the only way Catawiki will start to respect its artists is when ALL artist will start to demand minimal prices.
My advice to all artist is to stay away from Catawiki.
I can recommend Jasper52 for a quick sell and Saatchi.
Lastly, Catawiki admits to monitoring the online activities of both buyers and sellers. They do this via monitoring their IP addresses, but I am afraid that they go (much) farther than that.
I would advise both art buyers and sellers to stay away from this company.

Recently, I won a piece of electronics that was delivered to me in shambles. The seller packed the item poorly and the item and I suffered the consequences. The turntable did not get the worst of it. It was returned to the seller in the condition I received it. I, however, did not received a refund for the returned item. So, I got the worst of the bargain.
Despite 30 emails to and from Catawiki customer relations regarding the resolution and refund, I have yet to receive my refund. This matter has transpired over six (6) weeks and I have no recourse.
The custom relations group assured me the refund was in process but the funds were never transferred to me. As it stands this leaves me short of hundreds of dollars, frustrated and bitter about my experience with Catawiki. Moreover, I have reason to distrust the integrity of the site and it's statement of conduct and policy.
If a customer cannot return and receive a refund for a purchase then the transactions are offered in blind faith without merit. Catawiki's conduct in my experience should give potential customers reason to proceed with an abundance of caution.

It is a pity I didn't take take time to find reviews on CataWiki before placing a bid. This is a site where one gets the idea that everything is reputable. There is a picture of an expert. One gets the idea that the products are checked by that expert. After my experience now I would say all fur coat and no knickers.
After my negative experience with CW I asked to speak to that expert. They say I can't. In theory it is possible that the so called experts don't even exist.
I made a bid on a violin which on arrival showed a fatal flaw. The neck is at a wrong angle so it is only playable if an expensive repair gets done. The seller claims ignorance 'selling for a friend' but was knowledgeable enough to not show the flaw on the photographs. This makes the item unfit for purpose. He didn't want to accept a return and CW claims the item was as described.
CW answers calls and emails but to no satisfaction and so far I have not spoken to an expert, but I did notice that they now have a different expert for violins since my purchase in February.
Do not buy with this bunch as pigs in pokes are waiting for you.
