Myself & my Friend took the Ferry to Lismore yesterday to scatter my Dads ashes opposite Gannavan Sands.
Admittedly I went on the wrong boat originally, so I was really on edge when I knew I had made the mistake.
However, we had a lovely couple of hours in Oban, lunch & a good walkabout
Then we picked up the ferry around 2ish & the lovely Paul talked us thru the situation & how they would help me do this truly emotional situation.
As an added bonus we got to Lismore & unfortunately we were then behind time, possibly due to my wishes.
So we had to return immediately, but again the lovely Paul offered us a cup of tea &&&&& a choccy biscuit
Im not gonna lie, he couldn't control the current but he really looked after us
THANKYOU Paul Murphy xx

We have just returned home after travelling the whole of the Outer Hebrides. We found this a lot easier than we originally thought with our two dogs thanks to the excellent service with Calmac. On one occasion we needed to alter our time of departure after booking. The staff at Calmac were so helpful and pleasant. The staff which were getting our cars off and on the ferries ran this like clockwork. We were also impressed with the standards onboard and the quality of food and decent prices on the larger ferries too.
Thank you Calmac for helping make our holiday a pleasant experience.

I have to Comment on the Crew on the M.V Loch Seaforth on the Western Isles Run..Following a recent Tragedy I had to Travel Urgently..Staff were Compassionate and Caring throughout. Norrie and Ann in Particular went above and beyond what would be the norm.

Arrived at 2:53 me and my family rushed across a busy road with my little sister who is 4 years old! And got in the station and it was the barrier was closed, closed 7 mins early?
Then we ask and they say that it closes up 5 mins before it departs and on the timetable it said departs from Wemyss bay at 3:00. Waste of time. They should make their timetable based on buses and trains times. Bearing in mind I am only 12. Having to rush across a busy road with my family ON TIME and not being able to get on the boat.

The dogs on the Loch Seaforth are taking over deck five.
Some of the staff walk past and tell the owners to move to the pet areas others just walk past and say nothing.
Dogs need a clear area like the was on the Isle of Lewis ferry. Very badly designed ferry.

Lousy and sad. We booked our trip to the islands a few days ago and after a q.5 hour trip you just tell us: no ferry today.
No sorry nothing. This is just very unkind and not respectful. Our son wanted this really badly.
Very disappointed and angry.

I have only used CalMac once to go across to the Western Isles this summer. I found their help and attitude wonderful and warming. Whilst needing their help on a couple of matters they couldn't have been nicer and genuinely concerned both via email and face to face. A lovely company to deal with.

During our recent holiday, we traveled with CalMac on the Ullapool-Stornoway and Tarbert-Uig routes. Booking online was simple, and we had no issues at all with check-in or boarding. The ferries were clean and well-maintained, and the staff was professional and courteous. We ate meals on both crossings, which was convenient and simplified our schedule, and the food was delicious. I would recommend CalMac Ferries and would travel with them again anytime.

Thank you so much Cal. Mac. for giving us an amazing holiday
We took the hopscotch 8 starting at Lewis
All the five ferries were extremely good and spotless, the Isle Of Lewis had a super lounge for pet owners and by the time we docked both the humans and dogs had made lovely aquitances.
I have got to say though it was the helpful and efficient staff who really excelled ensuring a safe and efficient borarding of our very precious to us motor home and friendly chats and pats to us and our two golden retriever dogs😃
We stayed on ferry port in Castlebay overnight but were kept awake till 2 am while motor home partied noisily. Next morning they refused to take screens off the windows and respond to dock staff but they persisted good naturally ( I personally wanted to leave them behind)
My friend needed to return as her mother had suddenly passes away and the staff at Loch Boisdale ensured her safe speedy return to the mainland.
Looking forward to our next adventure, thank you so much

Travelled on both the Arran ferries from Brodick and also Lochranza. Wanted to highlight the courtesy and helpfulness of staff. During the journey, staff were all friendly and professional. On disembarking the Lochranza ferry and picking up our car, we were stumped when it wouldn’t start. After much gazing into the bonnet and scratching of heads, a Calmac ferry man appeared. He held up the ferry, sprinted up the ramp to our car and gave us a push. The kindness of strangers. Good on you Cal Mac. Huge thank u.

We had a trip booked and my car broke down before it even started. Due to this, I had to go in another group members car and couldn't take mine on the ferry. They wouldn't even give me a refund for my car. Avoid and take the road to Skye instead.

Great customer service. We got delayed by three hours due to an accident on M6. I rang Calmac and everyone was incredibly helpful. The young lady I spoke too rearranged all our tickets from Oban to Mull to one from lochaline THEY EVEN REFUNDED THE DIFFERENCE as it was a cheaper crossing ( this wasn’t an easy task as it was for three cars and two foot passengers).
When we finally boarded the ferry the lady who collected the tickets very patiently went through the bookings and sorted out our return tickets. Just wanted to say a big thanks to you all.

First time I have ever been less than happy with CalMac but doing this review because I found the situation downright dangerous. Four of us in car on Clansman were shepherded into a space in which we couldn't even open car doors to exit vehicle. There were no staff around to assist as we were amongst last to board. Managed to inch forward and get out car by clambering over seats and exiting that way! Hardly dignified or easy for a 60 something and a fifty something arthritic person! We opted to walk off as there's was no way we were fit enough for reverse procedure! Very poor CalMac.

VERY DISAPPOINTED! Travelled with this boat before but this will be the first trip travelling with my brother in a wheelchair. We were not told be any member of the crew that the lift would be out of use for the whole journey so we are now stuck on the top deck with NO disabled toilet and the male toilets are extremely narrow and have a steep step to get into them. I would love to know how my brother is meant to use his catheter with no privacy. Makes those who are already less fortunate feel singled out and helpless. Contacted the information desk but they had no sympathy and were very unhelpful. Will not be using again. If you are disabled I would not recommend this.

Travelled on four Calmac ferries in the last week. All extremely good. This review is particularly for the catering team on the ferry from colonsay to Port Askaig, Islay last Wednesday 22nd May. They were without doubt the friendliest, most hardworking and efficient team of people. Nothing was too much trouble. They need to be congratulated. Many thanks.

Ferry cancelled was stuck on Isle of Rum 2 days have traveled in far worse weather. Makes you wonder. Time they were investigated by the monopolies commission. Was worried on the day of our return as there was an actual cloud in the sky!

Awful! CalMac left us and about 8 other passengers stranded on Eigg though we booked return tickets. There is one boat in the morning and one in the afternoon. This was the afternoon boat so there was no way to get to the mainland that day using scheduled services. Eigg is very small and had no formal accommodations.
The CalMac employee who was in charge of the queue shouted that there wasn't room for everyone, completely mishandled the situation, let some people on and others not without any process, let some people jump the queue, pushed others back, and told the rest of us we were out of luck and the best they could do was that we'd get refunds if we went to the office in Mallaig.
When we finally got to the CalMac office the next day to get the refund we were promised by the CalMac employee we were treated rudely, accused of lying, told CalMac never gives refunds, that the reason the boat was full was because CalMac oversold to a large group and that that wasn't CalMac's fault.
We met up with another couple - locals - that was denied service and they said "Well, it's CalMac. You can't trust them at all. They're a virtual monopoly. CalMac just wants your money. They'll never give it back no matter how bad their service. It a fact of life around here."
We filed a formal request for a refund anyway, and got a reply from CalMac that under EU regulations there is no provision for reimbursement in these situations. I then read the relevant EU regulations and learned that CalMac lied - there is nothing preventing the ferry service provider from providing reimbursement.
I feel sorry for the people that have to rely on CalMac for anything, and highly recommend all tourists avoid this company. Use small, private carriers instead of CalMac.

Severely overpriced ferry service, no discounts for residents of islands, always cancelled for the slightest weather change when all other nearby ferry companies seem to be running, monopoly on some islands is atrocious forcing me to sell up and move from Bute. Old ferries, and apparently one of the most overpriced ferries in Europe!!! Since it’s governmnet funded, can the government please look and see how island people suffer not getting to jobs especially because of this unreliable overpriced company. !??? Complaints about staff I read are totally irrelevant and really rare, face to face staff are always nice, it’s not their fault for the back running of this terrible company.

My partner, 18 month old son and various family members travelled from Oban to Castlebay on Aug 24th on MV Isle of Lewis Our car had broken down in Glasgow the previous day so baby and I travelled to oban from Glasgow. My partner however got bus in Fort William. His bus was running so late we doubted he would make the ferry. Staff were amazing. Held the ferry for him for ten minutes and went out of their way to assist him on with luggage and find us seats . Boat was mobbed n I had to wait at gangway for him as I had the tickets. Having blood clots on lung meant by time he rushed down he looked and sounded like a heart attack victim but again staff were outstanding in the attention given. Travel this route often and find they are brilliant but on that day they went above and beyond. Thanks so much to the crew and Oban pier office staff. Xx

Lost my wallet on board and the staff in the Arran terminal and on the ferry couldn't have been more helpful in returning it to me the same day, so I could enjoy my stay on the island. Price of my ticket was good value and the catering is of a high standard.

We decided to take a trip to the outer Hebrides in August 2018 and were advised to make sure we booked the Ferry in advance as it can get busy at this time of year ,so we called Caledonian Macbrayne :we spoke to a female & male who were very nice & advised us of dates & times that may be suitable she was so helpful as we really had no idea of where to start or which options to pick & we were travelling with 2 dogs
We booked the hopscotch
Mallaig - Lochboisdale
Berneray - Leverburgh & return
Eriskay - Ardmhor
Castlebay - Oban
I'm writing this as we pull into Oban last port of our holiday & we are very happy with the service from your company .. it's been first class our dogs were well looked after
From the advice given to us by port staff at mallaig & the seamless getting on & off the ferrys at all the ports to the staff on board , catering for us and we did eat on board all the food & drinks were good ..
Well done & Thank you

I regularly travel on the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry and have never had any problems. I phone to book my tickets and I'm always greeted by a lovely lady who is always helpful. The staff on the Loch Seaforth are always friendly and happy to help and the food is also very good. I always look forward to my journey on the ferry.

Frankly the reviews on here are puzzling. My wife, my children and pets have been travelling on Calmac services for over 25 years. We have been on every possible route with 1 small exception, Tayinloan to Gigha, and have always had unbelievably good customer service. We have travelled when the crossing has been like a millpond and we have been caught in gale force 9 winds off Lochboisdale such that we could not get in the harbour. We have always felt safe, always been kept informed of what is going on and have never had any problems. The staff have always acted professionally and friendly. The captain has shown my children around the bridge on several of the company's vessels including Clansman on its maiden crossing to Barra. To me it's irrelevant who owns the company whether it be the Scottish govenment, David MacBrayne or whoever. From the top down this lifeline service is doing a good job and long may it continue.

When they are running well and you do not have to interact with their employees, their service is ok. However, their spontaneous cancellations without any thought or regard to customers is legendary. They don’t care though because of Govt. grants and their monopoly power over the region.
You are forced to use them but don’t expect good service.
