I found Boox software extremely easy and intuitive to use, made tracking payments, invoicing, and expenses simple. Whenever I had to interact with a member of the team they were always professional and explained everything clearly. Would absolutely recommend to anyone considering a contractor accountant!

Unfortunately the service from this company has deteriorated.. lots issues recently. I terminated contract a couple months ago as no longer self employed.. had confirmation as to when account would close.. but checked business account and have been still taking payments each month. Really bad and unfortunately I would not recommend this company after my recent experience.

Excellent service received from Tom Maddison, who spotted an error in my accounts, rectified the problem and gained a substantial tax rebate from HMRC, a very happy customer.

They make out like you’ll get professional accounting but in reality it’s just a bunch of kids who have no clue, I ask simple questions and have to wait for a response, I get VAT return notifications on the due date and I asked to close my company, paid a month which is part of their agreement is enough to close they charged 2 month cause of 1 days overlap.

Hopeless. Literally paid to do one job and didn't do it. Got a massive fine from HMRC because they didn't file a tax return I paid them to file. Taking money for things they haven't done. Robbing cowboy outfit.

Boox’ saving grace is their website. Essentially they have designed a very well functioning website that tries as far as possible to automate book keeping for the average contractor or small business. This website works very well.
Be warned though, if you request an actual human help with something - their service is very hit and mis.
You don’t have a dedicated person, you have teams of accountants who change like the seasons.
If you ask them to do anything out of their standard offering - the response will be mixed.
I recently asked them to calculate how long I can keep paying myself a basic salary without bringing in new profit - no response.
Over the last few years I have phoned them to explain things to me - not helpful at all. Generally the people I have spoken to have been grumpy and aloof - taken aback why I would dare to phone my accounting team.
So take all this onboard before signing up. If you want a friendly personalised customer experience you might want to go elsewhere.
If your business is simple, straightforward and you want an automated online experience go with Boox.

I needed a limited company and accounting for a 2 year contract. Boox had me up and running in less than a week. The web portal is pretty good, and they are always available by phone or email to answer questions. Excellent service.

Customer service response time can do with some work, 24 hr to 48hr follow up emails would be appreciated if more time is needed for a response, at times I had to wait a few days without any feedback or update.. Other than this the service has been great.

Absolutely everything is left to the last possible moment. I have been left with a matter of hours to pay a tax bill on time because their system couldn’t cope with a pretty standard VAT correction entry that I had to make once.
I was overcharged one month by £6 and it took months of chasing to get this back - I had to personally contact the CEO on LinkedIn to get somebody to sort it out.
I was given no introduction to the company and using its own (absolutely appalling) system. I have had no real advice from them, only some generic guides sent to me that required my own research to fully understand.
The system itself is incredibly awkward, full of bugs that I’ve learnt to workaround over the last few years, and the app lacks the basic functionality that you need to use frequently.
A phone call today with the company to try and chase up my moving of accountants and close down some of the questions my new accountant had asked was full of “I assume”, “I don’t know” and “I think” - no real answers to any of my questions; questions such as why I suddenly owe my company money for no good reason and without any warning. Before I even got through to the accounting team the person who answered the phone sounded really fed up. I dread to think how they treat their staff.
My best advice is find an accountant that uses a decent off-the-shelf software package and is interested in providing real advice that you are meant to be receiving in exchange for your fees. Seeing how my new accountant operates (and costs less!) has made me realise just how poor Boox is and that I should have made this move a long time ago.

I have been using this accountancy firm for two years and in the end had to close because I was having to keep putting my own money into the business account. I am now about to close the account and I have a corporate tax bill of a £1000 tax and there isn't the money in the account. The App is supposed to ensure the money is in the account so you don't take it out and all I have done is pay personal money into it. Something is not right and when I advised I wanted a financial ombudsman to too look at my accounts they said I would have to pay for it. I pay £90 a month for a terrible service that gets you into a financial mess.

The team have been great at advising what I need to do for setting up and handling all the core administration. Emily gets a special mention for her diligence in following up to make sure all the 'i's are dotted and 't's are crossed. Early days but great so far.

Would not recommend this company
Have made error after error with my accounts resulting in suddenly having pay huge amounts to tax and vat without warning.. staff rude and customer service not good.. would avoid this company.

I was recommended boox through my nursing agency in 2015, I have had a terrible experience from boox from start to finish, had. Two accountants, first accountant was late submitting my companies house file and I received a £100 fine. This year my accountant failed to pay my corporation tax bill despite them having my new Natwest bank card and I had the tax man on my door demanding money £475 plus I had to pay a £ 75 fine!
Numerous phone calls as to what I am actually getting out of my £97.20 per month as I have done Everything myself. My accountants have never advertised me what I can or can’t claim for until I have found out from other nurses and then questioned my accountant who then told me.
I have now received a threatening letter from boox this morning demanding £778 otherwise they are taking court action.
I will tell every nurse I come across to NEVER EVER use this shocking company! Not a professional way to treat customers. I have also told my nursing agency to stop recommending boox. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!!!!!!!!

My experience with Boox has been very good and any of the employees I was in contact with was very helpful and informative.
I have even had follow up call's to make sure everything has been to my satisfaction and if there was any queries or questions I was not to hesitate to ask.
I would definitely recommend Boox's services to others.

I have had a great experience with Boox so far and in particular with Emily and Inamul who have helped me greatly in transitioning from another accountant.
I haven't rated 5 stars as I am not fully up to speed yet - this is due to being a month behind on my payroll schedule. I'm sure this will run smoothly as well though.
