How can this company still be being allowed to con people and sell box sets with pictures of books and no mention of ebook !!! Disgraceful !

Like everyone else I was slow to realise that I was not buying an actual book. Nothing on the website to tell you this, should have realised it did not give any delivery details. What a con.

Don’t back down when they just offer you a credit. Persist and tell them you are contacting your credit card company or bank to report them for “what you believe to be a clear case of fraudulent misrepresentation”. They refunded me immediately when I said that. That’s because credit card companies and banks are their life line. Still complain even though you get a refund, only then will the credit card companies and banks withdraw their facilities.

Will not refund me and no details anywhere about it being an ebooks only company!

I ordered a book from them in August as a gift. I gave the recipients address as requested but book never arrived. On investigating I now realise I was purchasing an e book!!!! There was nothing to suggest this at the time of ordering. Would not use them again and recommend people avoid the site. They were not particularly cheap. I have requested a refund. I hope they will respond.

What a rip off, bought some dork diary books for my daughter, the site even showed the books in the flesh as well as asking for postcode to calculate p + p. The site should clearly state that this is a download only before you go on to complete your purchase/ download. I have emailed them demanding a refund or I will contact my credit card company and let them deal with it. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE CROOKS.......

Beware Bookword only sell eBooks, it's in their terms and conditions.
I was deceived by their website and requested a refund. They would only offer me a credit for more eBooks.

Like all the other reviews say, there is absolutely NO mention of this being an ‘e book’. I had found countless ebooks at 99p but wanted the hard copy, so stupidly ordered before checking the reviews and ended up paying over £6 for it. I’m so mad with myself. I will be contacting the company but looking at other reviews don’t hold out much hope.

DO NOT USE BOOKWORD. They are a disgrace! No mention that the books are ebooks. I bought Wimpy the Kid box set for my 8year old to take to school and i get a set of pdfs to download. I've emailed them with no response. I have tried to stop the transaction going through my bank but it can't be stopped as it is pending. Please if anyone has got a refund, please post how you got it. I have paid £14.90 for pdfs that are of no use to me and my 8 year old can't access or take to school. We're trying to make reading exciting for our kids and not put them in front of a screen staring at a pdf. Is there a watchdog we can report this company to? How can we stop being scammed by this website?

This appears to be legalised corruption. This Company need to be taken to task and put out of business immediately. I have tried emailing this Micky Mouse company in relation to an order I placed on 31st July and I cannot even get a response.
Appalling. The choice of no stars should be available to show these people up for they really are. Crooks.

Like others I have had a bad experience. They did not even send me the link for the ebook download, not that I ever wanted an ebook. In case it helps others below is my response to their offer to give me credits for a future book- something I rejected. I await their response
"I've spoken to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service with whom I have discussed the Consumer Contract Regulations and received advice from them.
They have confirmed that I have rights to a refund within 14 days of purchasing the item, this is extended to 90 days in view of your company not making it clear that it was an e book. In addition as you have not yet sent me the email with the download link, I have an automatic right to cancel the order and receive a refund
I'm exercising my statutory rights and legally I'm entitled to the £4.50 refunded to my bank account. Please pay it to me.
Your website is very misleading and is false advertising. I've also been in touch with the Advertising Standards Authority and the Alternative dispute resolution service. Both advise that I am entitled to a refund and that if I use them to pursue an action against you, costs will arise and that you will be liable for them.
In addition in view of your action of taking my money and not providing me with anything in return I shall also be contacting my banks fraud department.
Please repay the monies as soon as possible"

Same experience as everyone else. Bought a hardcopy book in good faith. Waited in vain for delivery, then sent an email asking for delivery date. No response. Then spotted the reviews here on Trustpilot and realised I had in fact purchased a download - completely useless to me and not highlighted in any way on their website. This is sharp practice if not outright fraud.

DO NOT USE. They don't deserve even 1 star. I bought, what I thought was a book, and I received a download!! This is no use to me what so ever. I have complained to the site and requested a refund, but to no avail. I'm now just receiving automated emails saying that i can have a credit to use on my next shop! There is no where obvious on their website that you will recieve a download, it is in the smallest wording in their T's & C's. This is false advertising and they are a disgrace to online shopping. DO NOT USE

Does not sell to you on the internet as a download sells goods as a book!
Telephone number does not exist when you try to contact them!

Just like all the other people who have posted here - I thought I was ordering a book and then found it was a PDF, which I haven't opened, but they say they "can't refund"; clearly they don't read complaints as I got the identical reply three times. Why didn't I read Trustpilot first??
And why haven't Trading Standards closed them down yet? This company is a disgrace.

Thank god I checked on here!!! I don’t normally look at reviews but just had a funny feeling about bookword. Think it’s coz it doesn’t offer Paypal which made me look further into it! Thank you so much for everyone’s reviews. Saved me some money

Unfortunately, just like the majority of the other reviews, this website is an absolute joke. Do not buy anything from this website unless you actually want an ebook. No where in the product description does it state that you are only buying an ebook, neither does it make you aware when entering your payment details or delivery address.
Having read all of the other reviews I have found that there is a clause squirreled away in the terms and conditions that the website only sells digital products. However this is not good enough and it is not made clear at the point of sale.
To make matters worse, the only contact number is out of service and it is impossible to physically speak to somebody.
A con and a disgrace. I will be pursuing a refund with my credit card provider.

RUBBISH COMPANY: Selling ebooks instead of normal books without any information to let you know when ordering. Don't order anything from them
Review by Einys Odigeo1 month ago
I was looking to buy two specific cookery books and searched for them on Google. Bookword.uk had both books in stock for a very reasonable price. Nowhere near the description of the books did it say that Bookword.uk only sell digital copies. (I’ve since found this information by reading their terms and conditions.) I received an email with download instructions. I emailed Bookword.uk to say that I hadn’t realised that I wouldn’t receive hard copies of the books. I didn’t download them and requested a refund so that I could purchase them elsewhere. They didn’t reply to my email.
I feel that the Bookword.uk website is intentionally misleading. I wish I had allowed more time to research the company before I placed my order. I’ll never be ordering from them again, even if I do want a digital book.

How can this company get away with it. There is nothing on their website which says that it is a downloadable copy and not a hard copy.

I buy a lot of cook books and I was excited to see the new Dishoom cook book at a reasonable price. No where on the order page did it state that it was an e-book. I checked to see delivery a few days later and it was only then that it said books will be delivered via down load. I never buy electronic cook books and am very disappointed as I will now have to buy the book again in hard format. Won't be buying from these people again. They need to make it clear that you are getting a PDF
