I just have a very bad experience of booking the hotel from this website. This company will provide your credit card to hotel and charge your first night before the cancellation date. I cancel the hotel in Taiwan before the cancellation date that has been set by the booking.com However my credit card has been charged. I called the customer services from booking.com and they admit to me that the hotel is having some problem in their internal system. They agreed to refund the amount to me.
The hotel did refund the amount to me in TWD and there is a currency differences. I called up booking.com to complain and they passed my case to more than 6 customer services officer and not able to resolve my case. They told me the hotel has the right to charge my credit card - case close. To play safe and to protect your credit card information, never book from booking.com There are other hotel booking websites that I think is more trustable.
Booking.com customer service has no integrity and they have very poor customer services that are not willing to help me to solve the case. They just blame me of not reading the small print which I didn't found in my booking confirmation.

Charging me for a canceled hotel room
I booked a room at The District Hotel in Washington DC using booking.com, it was advertised as no fee for cancellations, I canceled the hotel room weeks ago using the booking.com web site but I still got charged $99.00 plus tax for 2 nights. I contacted both The District hotel and Booking.com and they both tell me I did not cancel.
