After 7 years we are finally moving away from BigCommerce. Safe yourself a painful journey and go anywhere but BigCommerce. Some features have been broken for a year and they keep telling us its not a priority therefore it wont be fixed anytime soon. But you get sucked in and end up paying hundreds of dollars a month for better service only to come find out customers service, tech support and the legal team know they rip you off daily, but just don't care. It must be the worst software company on the planet. Its very sad, but we are happy to find a new home with wordpress and woocommerce. I have worked with Shopify for over a year now on another site and Shopify is by far much more organized, easier to use with excellent support. Shopify also does not steal your money by false advertising and actually care about things that gets broken and resolve it quickly. We deeply regret working with BigCommerce.

We opted for their Standard plan because we didn't need all the other bells and whistles but we did need a FILTERED SEARCH. So I clicked on Filter only to find 'Product filtering is available exclusively on our Enterprise and Pro plans'. So my monthly would go from $29.95 to $249.95 Ridiculous!! They can stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
Sure glad I was just on their trial.

Simply one of the best e-commerce platforms out there. The customer service is top notch. They get you started in a breeze and professionally. There's plenty of support materials and options to choose from depending on your location and the products you are selling.

Wow, I never thought I'd write a 5 star review about ANY IT company--and I used to be in IT. But after horrible service with GoDaddy and Digitlhaus I was SO impressed with Bigcommerce. Support picks up the phone within a minute, they address all issues, even ones that aren't their responsbility and they are so thorough. Best customer service and support I've ever run into in 20 years-- hands down.

“The future of e-commerce looks promising for small businesses. Let's take a closer look at how independent merchants can continue to sell more and stand out in competition with big-box retailers who also have moved online.” This is from an article that was written in Forbes by Eddie Machaalani who is the executive chariman and then CEO of Bigcommerce, a provider of e-commerce software in 2013.
I would argue that this is a not exactly true. That this company takes advantage of people consecutively and has predatory mind state like every other software as a service based company that simply inflates what it is able to do for it's customers and over promises and under delivers. The core of these hyped up promises start with the API. The API is a way of having systems directly speak to each other without the involvement of a person in the simplest terms.
We are a online retailer that approached big commerce and explained what we do in detail. They assured us that the software would support everything we needed to do in the traditional used car salesman fashion. Sales people desperate for meeting there end of the month quota filled with essentially the desire to get you to sign on the dotted line will do anything.
We signed up to our ignorance and were confronted with huge systematic limitations. Still assured that we could accomplish what we scoped out. According to there online white papers “the API economy can help you streamline your business, build customer loyalty, and increase profitability”. However they have a problematic system with poor performance and rigid constraints that directly were a misrepresentation of there services. They have unclear limitations and poor documentation that is designed to actually prey on small and medium businesses. It would be fair to say they supplied false information for the guidance of a business transaction or failed to exercise reasonable care or competence in obtaining or communicating the information. All of which was billed at 2500 a month.
In looking at customer complaints that are carefully covered by positive reviews we found out we are not the only ones that have complaints about this company but in essence had they just been up front about the limitation it would have saved a headache. It is however easier to just lie to maintain retention.

Bigcommerce is average. We still can't accept ach payments and unlike shopify that offers merchant cash advances thats not an option here. I hate the fact that we cant have our own ssl, we have to be on certain plans to get it etc.

Terrible customer support. Voicemails go unanswered. Phones just go to voicemail. Emails go ignored. Chat doesn't work. Very poor service for the money that's paid.

BigCommerce requires you to be on Pro or Enterprise plan Min. 249.99 a month to have basic filtering capabilities like price range, brand, and category. What a scam!

I used to love Big Commerce and as well as having my own websites I was a partner and set up BC sites for others.
Regrettably, as they have grown their attitude and offering have deteriorated hugely. Some features of the site are broken and have been for months, with support just repeating that they are working on it. Other features which have been around for years remain bug ridden.
As mentioned elsewhere, the other issue is that as your business grows the amount you pay leaps hugely - sell more than $150,000 and your monthly fee goes from $79 to $250. For a U.K. user there is no additional benefit for the 350% increase - you just pay more for everything.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the BC platform, it has just become disinterested in its customers and focussed on its own revenues. As such I cannot recommend it, there are better platforms out there. For comparison, look at the TrustPilot reviews for ShopWired...

Unbelievably horrible service.
I pay the company for website hosting and services provided such as sales channel management. (ie: Amazon and Ebay)
For the last month, my channel management has been disconnecting from Amazon- causing oversells, shortages, and a mandatory biweekly HAND COUNT of over 300 skus. It's expensive and time-consuming.
This issue has been brought to bigcommerce's attention and escalaed twice this past month. The response to the issue is "we know it's an issue, thanks for telling us. Here's a work around until we get around to fixing it."
Except the work around didn't work.
I then wake up to see my account is suspended, my website is down, and I can't find any support materials to figure out how to view it. So I call in and I explain that I only THIS MORNING got a notice that my account MAY be suspended if I don't pay. That was 6 a.m. My account was off at least by 8 a.m. when I noticed it.
The resaon the account payment didn't go through was the payment card was canceled due to unauthorized use. I have a replacement card and it was no issue to make a payment- but I wasn't given an opportunity to do so before the account was suspended.
When I called in, I explained that I had made the payment, but I expect a credit for some of the issues we've expereinced with integration. I was told that the answer is no- in a NOT nice way. There was nothing they would do for me, and to check my terms of service.
With regard to the suspension, the supervisor refused to accept that the "may be suspended" notice was sent today. Literally argued with me about it. I asked to speak with his manager and I was told no. So, I'll be filing multiple complaints and taking my business elsewhere.

On April 2nd, 2019, Big Commerce promised me that for $2500, they would build an e-commerce web site and migrate all products, shopper groups, attributes, and past orders from a client's existing web site to a new site on their platform. After speaking with Meredith (the person who was my account rep at Big Commerce) and explaining my needs, she assured me that everything would be done and ready to go live in about a month. They took my PayPal debit card information to charge me $79.95 for the first month of hosting and they got started.
On April 26th, I called and told Meredith that I was unhappy with the progress and layout of the site and that although MOST of the products were there, the special pricing, shopper groups, and previous orders were not, making the new site useless. She said that they were still working on the migration and that if I wanted a better template, I could purchase one...so I did for $225.
Big Commerce NEVER DID finish the migration.
On May 2nd, they hit my PayPal card again for $79.95 for an additional month of hosting. It was at this point that I started to get really upset. Meredith stopped answering the phone. I eventually called her from another number and she answered and told me that she no longer worked for Big Commerce and that if I wanted a refund, I would have to contact Daniel Fertig, the company director. I called their corporate office 5 or 6 times asking for Daniel and was told he would call me back. He never did.
I then had to hire another company to get the job done because Big Commerce stopped communicating with me (other than to tell my son, who got through on their tech support line that it would cost extra money to finish the job)
On May 11th, Big Commerce STOLE $2500 from me. I say STOLE because I did NOT give them permission to charge my card (which they already had). They know they are wrong and refuse to take or return my calls. Instead of telling me that they couldn't do the job, they just took my money anyway. I am currently in dispute with my card company to get the money back. They are thieves.

Big Commerce is a nice platform that puts everything at your fingertips. The only part that I am not fond of, is there are few free templates, and if you want another template the prices are high. I realize that they are a one time fee, but at the same time, it just seems they can either 1. reduce the price, OR 2. have more free choices.

Awful customer service if your looking for an ecommerce solution don't use these they are not a solution they are a problem
All the features sound great I agree but once you enter into an agreement with them there terms kick in and there terms are in my opinion borderline illegal and be warned there terms state you can not pursue a claim in court but we will give arbitration handled by a company we choose and represented by a person of our choosing and paid for by us
So your complaint will be argued by the most incompetent person on the planet against there entire legal team and its fair, really how can that be in any form be legal and if you were this decent company why would you make people agree to this
The reason is simple they know at the point of signing you up they are already looking for ways to defraud you of whatever they can

Been on a few platforms and BigCommerce has been the favorite when it comes to affordability, up time and customer service. My only wish would be for more creative templates and some less standard “cart” styles ones. They are getting better for sure but some added space on home page for creative content would put them at 5 stars and the best for sure!! I had to go with a 3rd party template which has had some challenges on things working right but had to make that trade for the creative - when BC comes out with a template I can create my vibe on.. I will switch for sure!

I love Big Commerce. The platform is very easy to understand and there are many great features to help me with my small business. The reps at the help desk have always been on top of things if and when I had an issue. Highly recommend!

Big Commerce has been a game changer for my small business. It was very easy to set up my online store and maintaining it has been easy and efficient. My business has expanded tremendously having a professional looking website and an easy order system in place. When ever I needed support and could not find answers on line, calling the support line was easy, free of hassles and my questions or problems were quickly answered or resolved.

Really overpriced for what you get. Things that are basic and included with other platforms cost more on BC. We've had server issues with them too. Very disappointing.

Platform, not bad! No human customer service and trying to automate so that customers do not have to bug them. That’s what I always get when there is an issue needs to be dealt with. Good luck finding a customer service number to solve you problem. Even google doesn’t have it :)
They send you feedback review and you say that message again and again three times and I guess no one reads the customer feedback they sent to customers.
Can anyone suggest an alternative service provider? Please email michael25680 at gmail thanks
