If I could give no stars I would. I have 3 of my dogs on their wellness plan and I am been a customer with them since 2016. I had called in august to discuss canceling my wellness plan for all 3 dogs because frankly, we can no longer afford their insurance each month ($80 a month for all three plus any medications we have to buy per visit comes straight out of our pocket). I was informed in August that two of my dogs plans were at a $0 balance and I could cancel that day, however if I canceled then it would be effective immediately and both of those dogs were past due on their shots. I asked if I could make an appointment for both of them to get their updated shots (that the plan includes may I add) and then I could cancel with no issues and was told that wouldn't be a problem. So that's what I did. However one of my 3 dogs got bit by a spider and I had to use my dogs appointment for her updated shots on him on Aug 26th, 2019. I took him in on Aug 26th, 2019 to be treated for the spider bite, he still had a balance on his account for the contract and we only have paid 10/12 months, which is understandable. I paid around $130 that day for antibiotics and steroids for the bite and his account was never increased with any type of other charges. However, I called on the 18th of September to cancel once again, and my dogs balance was still at $0 at this time, but was reminded that if I canceled the past due shots would just go to waste since they were included in our wellness plan, no one let me know that my dogs account auto renewed on the 13th of September when I have been trying to cancel for awhile now. So I made an appointment again for updated shots with my first dog on the 25th, of September. I called back on the 27th of September to cancel and I found out that my dogs balance is now at $300 (and some change) due to me using the wellness plan services... I am not happy, we have been with this company and have paid SO much money each month and every visit costing us roughly $150 or more everytime and this is how we're being treated. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and am in contact with them trying to resolve this issue. Banfield responded to the complaint with the Better Business Bureau with a statment that now said my dogs account had a balance of $451.78 and they took two payments off so now its still at $289.50 when on the 18th of September it was at $0 and then I took my dog in for a routine vaccine and some allergy medicine, which I paid in full after the appointment was over and now I am being charged $289.50 for her plan renewal? The full cost of the medicine that I have discounted because we have an insurance/wellness plan to help with the cost??? Why in the world am I paying $25 a month, per dog ($80 total, monthly) for insurance/wellness plan WHILE paying for their medications each visit and still being charged on the back end for charges that I was never aware of??????? This company is a scam!! All they care about is money, they charge you on the back end and you would never know unless you tried to cancel your pets plan. I am furious to say the least. I have already canceled one of my dogs with them because his account was at $0 thank God. I have two more payments left on my other dog because he has to finish the 12 months but I am not giving up this fight with this company for them trying to screw my family over and get more money from us! We have been nothing but loyal since 2016 and I will let everyone know how badly you treat people that try to bring their animals here!

I’m disabled and had my service animal on wellness plan with Banfield since she was born. I wasn’t completely satisfied but because I love my dog, I felt like it would be a good thing to have her on the “wellness plan.” First, when they don’t have patience to deal with dogs their first alternative is to medicate which is totally wrong to me. Also in the start of her plan I was not informed until after I was lock in the plan, I was going be charge for other services on top of the monthly bill. But still because I am disabled and wanted the best for my service animal I kept her on a plan for 3 years. Then came the overcharges/double billing. I pay in person every month and for the simple reason of them having a automatic withdrawal on my account I found out later they were drafting for the bill I paid in person and earlier than it’s due date. So in closing I call corporate and made my complaint and tell them I choose to leave Banfield at end of this plan. And they sit there and ask why- even after explaining ask for me to stay with them! Smh. I paid remaining of plan and canceled my service animals plan with 2-3 months left. I was told I can access her plan until the cpl months is over and plan ends but I go to make an appointment and darn CORPORATE has taken her totally off the system. Snake Thieves! I was told I have to pay upfront for any visit and that she was due for shots!!!! Money hungry and only concerned of money company. Never again and will not recommend to no one! Rude CORPORATE and OVER CONFIDENT VETS!

Had a free wellness check-up on Thrsday 9/26 and showed them the lump on my dog's back and got an estimate to check it out. These mall vets are there to sell you their monthly premium plans more than anything else. Two days later on Saturday the lump/abscess had doubled in size so I called Banfield as soon as they were open. Their response: an appointment for six days later, real nice. What good is 7 days a week hours when you can't be seen, especially urgent care? I took the dog to Waugh Chapel animal hospital in Gambrills.
Saturday, no appointment, a dog that was never seen by them got taken care of. The dog went under anesthesia, abscess was opened and flushed, drains installed and left with meds. A very serious condition brushed aside by the big chain vets. That was $500 spent with a vet practice that is all about quality NOT quantity!!

I signed up for the wellness plan based on recommendations from my sister who works at Banfield. The employees are required by Banfield to sell or recommend the plans to visitors. I signed up and barely used any services. They charge you $20 fee/month for any late payments, which is a ridiculously expensive late fee on the $40 monthly. On top of that, they charged me twice within a two week period when I requested to have the payment date changed. I called their hotline and was told there's nothing they can do for that change, but they'll waive late fee this time. Tried to cancel the plan but they said the plan covers a package deal on services with 40% off. if I cancel now that they would charge me the full 100% on services, which would be $600+ now. Or I wait to be charged for an additional 5 months, which would total $550+.
The plans are also NOT the same as pet insurance. I knew this beforehand, so I was not bothered by this. But many other people sign up thinking that it is. This means that any services that are not preventative care means that you will be charged out of pocket and is NOT covered. Very useless in my opinion.
This is clearly a way to rip money off people who just want the best for their pets. Don't fall for their so-called "wellness plans".

I have been a customer with Banfield for 11 years. What upset me was my dog was really sick after getting pancreatitis. He almost died on me. So I took him to the vet after he got somewhat better. So I took him in, and they gave him Gabapentin for his arthritis in his back legs. The meds seem to help. A couple weeks later he seemed to be getting worse. My dog got to the point where he slept all day, or either did not move and was shaking bad in his cage. He would not walk, he urinated on himself and would not eat. Then a couple days after that he was like ok, and came out of his cage and walked around. I noticed something different with him. When he would walk, he would walk in circles, and run into things. His head would be down. He looked so sad. His quality of life was gone. Then he just got worse after that. I found out he had a stroke. His eyes would go back and forth like watching a tennis match. So I knew something neurological was wrong. That's when I knew he had a stroke. He could hardly see in front of him, I had to put food up to his nose so he would know it was there. He would walk and his two front legs would give out on him and he would fall on his face. All of this time, my heart is breaking. It just got to the point where he started to snap at me if I touched him. So I knew it was time for him to go. So this is when I called Banfield. On a Monday evening around 5:15pm. I called to see if the vet would put him down. Do not go to the Banfield in Joliet, IL on Plainfield Rd. To me, I think this would be an emergency, I did not want him to suffer anymore. All they were worried about is closing, and I had to make an appt, because the vet would need to see him and run tests and what not. I pretty much know when the end has come for a dog. I did not want tests done nor anything like that. I just wanted my dog to be respected and not suffer anymore. So I called another vets office and they got me in right away and said they would have a room ready. I will give a great review for this vet, but not Banfield. When it comes to respecting my wishes for my dog, they lack greatly in this situation. Never again will I ever go to Banfield. Stay away, all they want is to get as much money out of you, and does not care for your fur baby.

I had signed up for the “Wellness Plan” when I first got my service dog thinking having the ability to see a vet regularly was good for a dog that was working a job. I have no clue what happened but I dropped off my happy, loving and confident dog for a teeth cleaning and when I picked her up she was a completely different animal. She was terrified of everything! A great service animal that made my life so much better had become a dog that couldn’t leave my home without shaking, hiding and keeping her back hunched and tail tucked under. These are all signs of severe fear and anxiety. Because of this one appointment I had to retire her early at the extremely young age of 4 years old. (Average age to retire a service dog is 8-10 years old) Then to add insult to injury they required that I pay for the rest of the year remaining on the plan. Then I called and cancelled the plan at the renewal date. Silly me, I thought everything was handled. Nope. I didn’t really pay attention to reoccurring withdrawals in my checking account, not a mistake I’ll make again, and didn’t realize they were still taking out monthly payments. When I realized what was going on I called to talk to someone. After being on hold for over 20 minutes I ended up with a guy who was not even close to helpful. Apparently they didn’t have any record of the call canceling the plan. That means that they will only refund the very last withdrawal but not the previous 10 months (at $49.90 a month that’s a whopping $499.00!!!) Never mind that I have never even stepped foot in a PetSmart or Banfield in over a year let alone brought my baby in to see them! I will never support either company again and will make sure that everyone I know learns about their shoddy vet and business practices. Thanks to Banfield I know have a highly trained and very expensive (estimated cost for service dogs from the nonprofit I received her from is $30,000 in training, breeding and medical care! Not to mention the money I had to pay out for hotel and food when I went to a 3 week boot camp to learn how to work with her.) house pet and have basically thrown away nearly $500.

I can not review about their service but can on their charges. They are in my view extremely expensive with any of their services. When I did calling around for something I needed for one of my pets they were the most expensive of all the vets I called.

I felt pressured into purchasing the wellness plan for my cat.. I was concerned for the problems he was having and as the vet tech kept telling me of all the things he needed to have done I decided the plan would help. I was wrong. My cat died in less than a month, something that should have been mentioned as a possibility due to his condition. So I'm stuck paying premiums for an additional eleven months. Because if you cancel you pay exaggerated prices for everything they have already performed. They care about money not your pet. I feel my pet would have had a much better chance at a local veterinary clinic.

Working in the customer service industry I have to say my worst experience has been with the staff at Banfield Pet Hospital. The staff at the Lake Success location in New Hyde Park need a customer service class do not entrust them with your fur baby they will use them to practice on.

We bought the annual "subscription" services for Banfield services. They have collected over $500 from us and we have yet to be able to utilize services. We are being told to drive 30-60 miles away from our home to have our dog's teeth cleaned when we have a Banfield outlet at our local Pet Smart. We were originally told we could use any of their locations, which was great since we travel between Northern and Southern California. But this is clearly not the case. We had an appointment that was a 40 minute drive from our house and when my husband got there he was told it was for an evaluation, not a "drop off" as the email indicated so we could actually get teeth cleaning services. Now we have to figure out how to cancel this non-service, service agreement.

Banfield is great for when you have a puppy or a kitten. I would suggest investing in an insurance plan when your pup or cat grows up.

BEWARE, take your pet somewhere else, anywhere else.
I was tricked into purchasing the Optimum Wellness Plan for a procedure I was told my pet needed. I should have done my research. Signed up for the Plan and was set to schedule the procedure for after the holidays, as they said it could wait a month. After the holidays I never received a call to schedule the procedure and the issue that we needed the procedure for healed on its own. So we never really needed the procedure to begin with. Ever since I have been trying to cancel this plan because we never really needed it. I felt like every time I went in all they would do is try to sell me on something whether my pet needed it or not. They don't care about the animals welfare as much as they care about making money. Very sad when what I thought was a good company is just a greedy company.

@Banfield Banfield pet hospital and their corporate employees have become greedy & uninterested in their customers retention. The level of commitment to the services we pay for has fallen over the past 4 years out of the nine years my best friend has been a patient. Since living in Summerville SC and moved to Lakewood CO we've encountered 3 major complaint issues where I contacted the client advocate team to have the on-site manager questioned for the doctors' ethics. Twice the claims were resolved by offering monetary compensation which isn't comparable to my dogs life obviously. The procedures performed were impacting my dog negatively further at both the Arvada and Lakewood locations. The policy at Banfield is upsale everything. Even while your pet is under anesthesia when the doctor leaves you a message on your phone saying you have five minutes to decide to use a new never heard of medication or not. I found that very frustrating and irresponsible of the veterinarian. Today I've been waiting for two months for a response from the Banfield corporate client advocate team because I wish to part ways from Banfield cancelling my contract as my dog has suffered enough. They don't care about your pet or how you feel they just want your money and I am now stopping payment through my bank. I encourage everyone to look at other means of health insurance for your pet. Vetco has a process for vaccinating that requires no monthly fee.

First don't be fooled by the Banfiled care plans. It is definitely not cheaper than taking your fur buddy to a local vet office. They will continue to charge you their monthly fee until the contract is over (That is obviously if you calll and cancel the contract Before its expiration. If not, the contract will renew and you will be stuck for another year) even if your dog dies.
Banfiled is a big company. People who work in them only care about their hourly wages. Where a local vet office, value their reputation in the community and will serve you and your fur buddy with dignity and respect.
You won't be able to get your Fido seen when necessary and needed. Because Banfiled has ripped off enough people and there is only one vet working in one of their office that the next available appointment will be always two weeks from when you call. Guess what happens then ? Since we all love our Fido. You will end up going to a local vet office with a same day appointment while you are still paying Banfield on monthly basis. Unlimited appointments of Banfield don't do us any good when we need our dog to be seen, he/she can't be seen for the next two weeks. Not to mention, when you call the front desk, the front desk practice their phony and unprofessional advices, acting like they know anything, and are trying to tell you what to do so they can avoid you from coming and seeing the real vet! Fool, you are a clerk, answer the phone, schedule me and f*#% off.

The location at Wheatland Rd. and Hampton in Dallas will mistreat your pet if you don't have lots of money. They were rude and took $60. from me only to give me back my injured pet the way I dropped him off. He came home and ran to his water bowl like he was dehydrated. I remember when people in this profession actually loved animals. Very sad

I had a really positive experience last year and the year before, with another cat. Then, the Virginia Beach, Hilltop location went to absolute sh!t. I still haven't found a new vet. But the taking the pets into the back thing, wtf is up with that anyway? NO vet has ever done any of that before, aside from rare occasions, when they need to probably be a little rougher or do something possibly that would upset the owner to see.
When I had to put one of my beloved cats to sleep last summer, they gave me the third degree interrogation, doubting that I was telling the truth about her condition and diagnosis of cancer. Really? Why the f##k would I lie about it? They said the emergency vet THEY SENT ME TO, had not sent the record.
Why would I make this up you numbskulls? What kind of sick person would do that? Then I had to wait for them to get the records to verify what I was saying. Why???? Don't you think my cat and I are suffering enough at this point? Thanks for making that horrible nightmare even worse, and grilling me further on this and that.
I suspect you probably just wanted to look for a way to run more tests or somehow make more money, when all I wanted to do was put my sweet baby to sleep and end her suffering. But no, you made me prove it you sick SOBs.
Then, one of my angel's last earthly experiences was being manhandled by strangers. They even cut her paw somehow putting in the IV, and denied knowing how that happened. She was bleeding pretty heavily too.
Then I took my other two there, this year, and things were an absolute nightmare. Plus they always basically force you to drop them off, only offering a regular appointment weeks away. Why? Because they charge more for those appointments, that's why!
The district manager was the only helpful person, and actual asset to this company. But in my opinion, why should I have to go to that level? Also it took a week or TWO for me to even reach her initially. Even the alleged manager of this place was rude as hell. Ugh, no way, never again Banfield.

Banfield in Deptford, NJ KILLED my 6 year old Pomeranian, Missy by giving her oxygen she didnt need and stressing her out to the point that it killed her. Dr Sara Garrison and Dr Amber Karwacki DEFIED me when I told them NOT to stress my dog by giving her oxygen she didnt even need. I wanted my dog and was going to take her to my car to calm her down after they gave her oxygen without my knowledge or consent, then defied me when I told them NOT to give it to her, Dr Garrison brought me my dog for about a minute or less while I was trying to calm her down, then snatched her and said, you know what? I am putting her back on oxygen. 10 mins later, they killed her. She was still alert and walking and breathing on her own when she snatched her from me and put her BACK on oxygen KNOWING I did not want them to do that because she didnt need it and she had a heart condition and got very stressed from them doing it to her. I could have calmed her down. She was MORE stressed another day 6 months prior from a different doctor trying to do xrays. That dr didnt give her oxygen. She just gave her back to me and she calmed down and was ok. I could have calmed her down, but didnt get the chance thanks to Sara Garrison. My dog is DEAD because of them! She was not in a condition where she was going to die that day if they just would have given her back to me, she would still be alive. Both doctors are young girls in their early 20's and dont know what the hell they are doing!

I took my dog to Banfield because he needed his rabies vaccination and I was at PetSmart getting him groomed. They tried to sell me pet insurance right off the bat, instead of greeting me and my dog. My dog was taken into "the back" for the rabies shot, something I'd never experienced with any other vet. The vet came back into the room without my dog and said he needed to be dewormed. I trusted her - big mistake. My dog almost died and his liver is compromised forever.
Lesson learned: if you go to Banfield, get the name of the vet who will be seeing your dog and check his/her references and experience.
