wow if you want to be stranded in a foreign hospital while this shady company refuse to pay and tell you to pay directly then they will give you the money back, then when you find 30,000 euro to pay with, they do everything they can to get out of paying you back,
I have now taken them to the ombudsman after they eventually agreed to pay me back after a year and then backtracked .
These Bast*@d$ have ruined my life they may be cheap but its for a very good reason.

Very easy to buy insurance not good if you wana claim. I was robbed in July in Ecuador, sent email to Backpacker Teravel Insurance 24th and 29th July and till now (13th Aug) nobody contact with me.

I had a terrible experience with these guys.
I am just like yourselves. Didn't think I'd need travel insurance but I thought why not in case something bad does happen. So I went and got it. I think I paid €200 with the thought that if anything happens I'll be fine.
Well something did Happen. I broke my collar bone in Hawaii. I went got an x Ray and saw a doctor. I had pictures of the broken bone and also a doctor's letter.
I had to cancel my flight to New Zealand and book a flight home. I informed them of this decision, and thought once I'm home I can sort it all out.
Basically I got home wrote to them and they said they don't actually look after you, it goes through MAPFRE. Could have said something but grand.
Filled out a claims form for them, gave them the doctors letter, and photos of the broken collar bone.
They wrote back to me and said I cannot be compensated. Didn't get a penny of them. After paying for the insurance, seeing a doctor, x Ray and cancelling my flights and booking a flight home.
And the other thing that annoyed me was that I went to new Zealand in September and I let them know via email. They said 'Blue insured provide the backpacker policy to you" so not backpacker insurance or MAPFRE.
My Point Make sure you scroll through the smallest of small print. Or don't get insurance and save yourself 200 bucks.
You may have a broken collar bone but you got 99 problems but €200 ain't one

My experience was 5 stars with Dale.
He was very patient and calm when I bombarded him with questions again and again, not once did he get upset or agitated.
I wasn’t forced to buy anything unlike other pushy salesmen. Great customer service.

Do yourself a favour and DO NOT USE this insurance company. They are underwritten by Mapfre and if you try and make a claim they will pass you to several different people and different countries to make the claim rather than take responsibility themselves. The upshot is that the UK should have registered the claim in the first instance an not passed you on. Given that many of you will be on a budget and will pay for any treatment you need and then claim - then you could be out of pocket for a long time. They are either incompetent or just hoping you will give up and not claim. Please look for another insurance company as you do not need the stress inflicted by this company.

Relatively easy to buy. Extremely difficult to understand the pre-existing medical condition.
It would be nice if there was an option to renew policies or even a no claim discount for previous policies.

Backpacker Travel Insurance are let down by their choice of claims company, Travel Claims Services. This is an incredibly slow (several months processing time) and unresponsive company. Backpacker Travel Insurance is not a viable choice to go with until they change the claims company they use.

So far, so good
I sent an email to confirm that I would be covered for a certain activity, the reply took a few days but, apart from that, there have been no issues. The purchasing process was straight forward, no return flight was needed for my travels and this policy had the best price for the service offered. I have not had to make a claim so I cannot comment on that experience

Good value for money, one positive is that you dont have to have a return ticket like most other backpacker insurers require. Which in my opinion makes sense, many backpackers do not know for sure when they will be returning home. My daughter has travelled to Australia on a 12 month working visa but wants to see how things go so backpackertravelinsurance was ideal for her.

This is the best policy for 24 months that I've found in the market place with simple wording and easy on line application form.

It's extremely well priced. The customer service was relatively good, however, I didn't feel completely confident with the answer I got regarding residency status. It was quite vague.

I've had a lot of problems clarifying a query of the policy. Have been told 2 different conflicting things on the phone and no one has replied to the 2 emails I sent. If I don't get clarification in writing soon I will have no choice but to cancel before the 14 day cooling off period is up.
On the plus sides for them they are very reasonably priced and easily contactable by phone.

Buying the insurance was a breeze but I can't comment on what it is liking claiming from Backpackers, and I hope I don't have to :-)
