Had AC system recharge in 2016 at CHM Auto. Then when AC didn't work in spring of 2017 I scheduled another service at same place which involved
- fixing leaks, which meant at least receiver/dryer change as identified by myself, but possibly more
- checking for leaks before recharge
- system recharge
In spring of 2018 the AC didn't again. I thought oh well, old 2001 car, probably needs recharge every year. But then at another service for recharge they told that the system was pretty much empty and needs fixing before recharging. Turns out there were few very obvious leaks visible in UV light on condenser. The car had drive only about 1000 km since last AC service so it is very unlikely that those holes just appeared. It's not like there's so many stones on danish roads. Given the lost refrigerant also in year from 2016 to 2017, it's way more likely that those holes were simply not noticed because the mechanic didn't even look for them with the most basic method using UV light.
In addition to poor workmanship in 2017, I was also overcharged buy CHM Auto compared to initial "standard" quoted price which apparently only covered 200g of refrigerant which is standard for working systems, not full recharge of empty one after fixing. In this case it should have received accurate quoted since it was clear the system would be empty. I was annoyed, but thought at least it's fixed... which it wasn't the year later.
When I tried to contact CHM Auto and claim service under warranty, they refused and said that the condenser wasn't part of previous job. Yeah, it wasn't because they failed to job to find the obvious leak. The new fixing involved changing condenser + again receiver/dryer (always needed when exposing to atmosphere) and recharge. At the very least the repeated part of the job should have been covered buy warranty. I ended up getting it fixed it elsewhere since I was very angry with their work.
So, in conclusion, 2 year warranty banners on the Autobutler website is just a gimmick. All they said about all this is pretty much "Contact the workshop. Sorry we can't help you.".
