My advice to consumers would be to make 100% sure all the details of your booking are correct from the outset. If you need to change anything or amend the booking you will be charged heavily for it. In addition the company makes it extremely difficult to change bookings or make a complaint as their browser links they provide often lead to blank pages. It was impossible to change my booking by the "manage my account" link, and even harder to complain.
In my scenario I tried to switch my brother onto being the main driver when I realised my licence had expired several days before I was due to fly out. The website and call centre made it so difficult, that I ended up just losing the booking and £100+ and just making a brand new booking instead. I will be opting for an alternative comparison site going forward.

Easy booking process. Franchises car brand new. Though not a manual or a Skoda as requested, the Hyundai was fully functional and comfortable for our stay. Returning car is always a bit tricky at Geneva but the Swiss side is much easier than the French sector! There is a petrol station right outside the car rental for refuelling on return. Good value though a long wait to collect as Unirent are part of europecar - who are always chocka after an easyJet flight lands.

Superb service from beginning to end!
This will be my 'go to' company for car hire every time from now on.
The process was efficient- no pushy sales people, Their expectations with regards to accidental damage was realistic. ( any damage under 5 cm was irrelevant, including surface damage caused by road side foliage etc ) The car was in very good condition.
The Argus customer services were also extremely efficient and friendly and made me feel confident and valued.

Very poor service.
I was charged twice - once online and then once again at the airport desk by Gold Car.
I contacted Argus to dispute the charge. Argus contacted Gold Car who reported that I had received an upgrade. I certainly did not accept an upgrade and was not informed I was paying extra - I was just told that they were taking a deposit to be refunded when I returned the car. Argus said they could not dispute the charge as they did not have details of any conversations at the check-in desk and have since declined to reply to any of my emails. I have tried contacting Gold Car on two occasions and they have also not replied.
I question whether this is normal business practice for Argus and Gold Car - charge the customer twice and refuse to reply to emails - knowing how difficult it will be for the customer to claim back money from a different country.
I would definitely not use Argus or gold car again. I can’t believe how poor the service has been throughout, and I’m incredibly disappointed at the lack of support from Argus in dealing with what is quite obviously a mistake on the part of gold car.
I hope others read this review and make a judgement as to whether they are prepared to hire a car through such a shady company.

Everything was very good with the exception of leaving back the car. I was told everything was OK and that I would receive email confirmation. Two day later and I have noit received the email. I left the country with only verbal confirmation that everything was in order and have received no written confirmation of this as yet. I had expected that the mail ws being sent from the iPad held by the controller during the checks of the car on return. Has something gone wrong with the communication or is this normal?

Use to rate this company, but no longer. They advertise that all their car rentals include breakdown cover, this is not true! Husband hired a car through them with Centauro in Spain, had to call for help and got stuck with a $270 bill, Argus are not interested even though it clearly states breakdown cover is included. Centauro meanwhile say we had to take out their insurance to get this, car hire companies are all criminals in a legitimate business disguise.

if you fly to Palermo, avoid choosing Goldstar. The time of your flight will be less than what you have to wait for the withdrawal of the car!!!
