I had a booking for early April this year. Due to the virus outbreak my trip was cancelled. Airbnb gave both me and the host a full refund (FYI, usually when one party cancels the reservation, some fees apply). I’m surprised how nicely Airbnb treats its clients in these difficult times. I hope, they survive the crisis so that I could book my next flat via the Airbnb reservation system.

Only use AirBnB if you are happy to loose money when you can fully document you are being scammed on their platform.
I booked an apartment for about $1,400. I was given a different, dirty apartment. I took photos of it and left. AirBnB found in the hosts favour based on fabricated evidence he provided. I lost everything and they ignored me contacting them several times. They never did give a response to my documentation counter to the host's claims.
AirBnB have notoriously awful support. If you have been scammed on their platform they will leave you high and dry. You can get your money back if you want to keep phoning them up for a month. They will finally cave in. Most of their staff don't know what they are doing, have no authority and will leave you going round and round in circles.
What's worse I found the host had previously been banned from AirBnB. I told them and they ignored it. Their new account had one review. I have spent $20,000 with them and have over 35 review.
Will never use them again and will tell everyone I encounter for the rest of my life not to use them.

I raised a very serious issue regarding an apartment that I had rented. There were safety concerns and Airbnb were not at all interested despite the fact I had sent pictures proving my case. One day someone, potentially a child will be badly hurt in this apartment

We are the neighbours to this Holiday Let....... Littlethwaite, North Stainmore, CA17 4EX... The Owners have been reported to the Trading Standards and Advertising Standards Authority for misleading the public as to what Littlethwaite is like as a Holiday let. We have had the police to the property because of antisocial behaviour, noise and nuisance. We, the neighbours, are utterly sickened by the Owners who have caused us much trouble. Therefore if you choose to book this property, understand that any noise, nuisance, anti-social behaviour will be immediately reported to the Police. You have been warned - we have evidence to back this message up by the bucket-load.

It didn't it's all a vehicle to charge hosts listing and and get money from guests. YOU BETTER BE AN ATTORNEY BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T READ THEIR POLICY ENTIRELY YOU WILL OUT OF LUCK. They strictly exist for the host, who controls everything. It Doesn'the matter if the host lies or they put things on their website aren't true they control your money. Airbnb doesn't care they have No concern for the (user) their term. So Be Very careful because the host always wins and they will give you the runaround for days and make you think they really care but if the host says No they you out of luck.

Allowed property to cancel with no penality! The sole reason for my score is due to AirBnBs policy that is suited to the properties only (giving them all the power) and punishes the customers who pay the fees. If i was to cancel as a customer i would be punished! Just giving full refund is not enough (left to find alternative on NYE in Toyko 1 month out - impossible to find something safe for my 3 year old that we could afford) and i will not be using AirBnb again as i just dont trust that this wont happen again (I have heard too many stories now and AirBnb need to rethink their policies).

Easy to search for available accommodation in chosen area. Would have given 5 stars if directions had been better and an actual address given once payment made.

Firstly, unlike a hotel, Airbnb has no control over the quality of the accommodation or the behavior of the hosts. If a host is responsive and responsible, then great. If not, then you're only option is to cancel. If you choose to cancel, you're subjected to a sometimes unfair cancellation policy. Also, Airbnb isn't very upfront about their fees being non-refundable. As for Airbnb as a company, it is sub-par. They intentionally make it difficult to contact them. They do not post a phone number or email address under their contact information on their website; they simply direct you to their FAQs. You have to search for there contact information online. When canceling a reservation, the website is not upfront about how much of a refund you will receive and it does not show up under your account. They do send a confirmation email fairy promptly. I used them twice and tried to use them a third time, but decided to go to a regular hotel instead after the host was unresponsive to my queries after I made payment. It didn't cost much more to book at a hotel and I have the luxury of being able to talk to somebody if there is a problem. If you're on a really tight budget and can find a good deal on Airbnb, then I would say go ahead. If it's a matter of saving a few dollars, go with a hotel.
