Are this company a rogue airline?
Do they not comply with the EU laws?

Airline charges every singe extra gram, INCLUDING your “Tax Free” shop acquisitions (60€/luggage!!!). Staff attitude is very unpleasant. Unless required, won’t use this airline again.

All flights for our holiday were pre-arranged and paid in full to Jetabroad on 8-th of June 2018. Now, in St Petersburg, on 1-st of July 2019 at 10.00 am we were ready to take a flight AIR BALTIC BT 0443 to Rome, Italy. We were at airport at 8.00 am. The queue was huge; still we have managed to hand over our suitcases and paid tax at 9. 13 Am.,
The security checks after that were unusually long; I never see in my life anything like that! We were in queues constantly, never gone away! Finally, when we reached the point to step in aircraft but …. We were told is too late! ………………And, also we were told we have to buy new tickets to Rome!
I am 75 years old and disabled. I started immediately to shake; my heart started to beat irregular. It was a shock like never in my life!
Finally, at 13.35, after more than 5 hours, we had a new flight to Rome. So, to summarise;
Paying luggage tax for the first flight AIR BALTIC BT 0443 to Rome ----- A$ 293
New tickets for Rome for second flight AIR BALTIC BT 633 to Rome ---- A$ 2,915
(Second time luggage tax was included in price this time, why not first time?).
Also, I lost prepaid taxi in Rome from airport to Hotel --------------------- A$ 60
Lost 5 hrs of Rome attractions; prepaid walking tour for Colosseum ---- A$ 342
In total, financially only ------------------------------------------------------------- A$ 3,610
Not even to mention uneasiness and psychological stress instead of joy of holiday!

I was denied boarding from KBP to RIX. Airbaltic frequently scams passengers because flight tickets are put on free sell, if you are travelling without luggage and it's a non transit flight you will be denied boarding very frequently.
Long story short they offered refund, however 2 months have passed (3+ months since flight) and still no refund. Avoid this company at all cost if possible unless you want to take a risk and ruin your vacation.
Also they are saying that I have voluntary agreed to give up my seat, which I never did - another lie:
Since you voluntary agreed to give up your seat, we will pay you voluntary denied boarding compensation in amount of 150 EUR. Please choose one of two compensation options offered below and inform me about your decision:
airBaltic Gift voucher in the amount of 188 EUR which can be used as a form of payment for booking flights on airBaltic.com for anyone (redemption deadline is 6 months from the date of issue, travel period – 1 year). More information about terms and conditions of Gift voucher’s usage is available on our webpage: https://. The Gift voucher is sent to your e-mail address within 5 working days of your notice;
transfer to your bank account in the amount of 150 EUR. In case this option is chosen, please provide bank account details (beneficiary, bank name, account currency, International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and SWIFT code) and the payment is processed within 15 working days of your notice.
I assure you that we truly value you as our loyal customer and hope you continue to use us as your trusted airline in future. We wish you safe and pleasant flights.

Such a terrible customer experience! With their recently updated 8kg maximum baggage allowance (when you get bombarded with daily emails asking to upgrade to 12kg) even duty free items purchased at the airport are included in this 8kg weight. Beware of this, otherwise you will have to pay a €60 fine.
@airBaltic is this your way to make more money? By upsetting your customers and ruining their experience?

Not a good experience - late on both legs of the flight. Flight attendants unhelpful.
Avoid if you can.

We were flying from Birmingham through Amsterdam to Riga. Everything was fine on the way there. However on the way back they opened the gate shortly before the flight and after checking my ticket asked me to weigh my luggage which my ticket says is up to 12kg. However AirBaltic allows only 8kg (this includes everything, even tax free). I did not have a single AirBaltic ticket. So they wanted us to pay 120 euros for our carry-on!
WE WERE GOING HOME WITH THE SAME LUGGAGE WE ARRIVED WITH!!!
Within 1 minute they started to say that they are going to close the gate now and we will miss our flight if we don't pay straight away. They wanted my partner to pay too but we refused as I said I will just take all his stuff on mine.
The staff was incredibly rude and demanding using threats to alienate their customers.
After I paid 60 euros (which is the price for the flight itself) we got on the plane and it kindly announced that they are flying in cooperation with KLM. What cooperation would that be?????
DISGRACEFUL company that are trying to scam their customers out of money for no reason at all.
I will do everything I can to never use this airline again and will spread the word.

They charge 300-400-450$ for tickets and no exchange or return policy on they “regular” tick wich i have paid more then 400$ each tick and in last 2 monts i lost 1.250 euro just because for one reason or other i could not fly and asked to exchange my date and they never did!!! They r stealing peoples money like this!! Why would they collect 400$ and give no service in return!!? Bad service, bad regulations, shame for National latvian company!! Cheaper airlines they respect more they clients.. will avoid them if i can fly any other company!!!

Wouldn't it be nice to take money and provide no service in return? Sadly, it's illegal in my country, but that doesn't stop #airbaltic from doing this as part of their ticket changes policy. If you buy their tickets via aggregators or agencies you will not know this unless you've been there before — and with 370K miles flown in the last 10 years all over the world, I have never seen an airline that does that. There are tariff rules somewhere, but while everyone knows the basic tix are nonrefundable, do you really expect to find that they can be nonexchangeable? And even if you do find out, you're still screwed, as you must buy a nonrefundable "exchange right" — but you can only do that at their website while purchasing your ticket, not afterwards. So there is no way you can buy your airBaltic ticket via an aggregator and not be screwed for exchanges unless you are doing it so late you only get their premium exchangeable fares.
So, airBaltic, make sure to make the best of my 250€ that you appropriated with nothing in return. They are your last after all. A very smart business tactic dealing with a frequent flyer.

Flying to Riga from London Gatwick. I have read a lot of the reviews here and there are a lot of complaints about the bag drop off.
FIRST THING’s FIRST
The flight would get a 5 but they have 2 staff for the main cabin. We did not get served until we were over the Baltic Sea and ready to start our descent. It’s a shame as it’s a great little airline and represents a truly amazing little country.
HERE WE GO - MENZIES
Air Baltic employ Menzies as their third party who’s level of service ruined all our plans. We arrived 2h 30minutes before the flight. The queue was staggering going around the escalators and lifts. We had priority boarding, we stood in the queue, waited and waited. Check in was open 2 hours before the flight and no one turned up. The staff were MENZIES personal. They were terrible arrived 40 minutes after, ‘faffed’ around and no apologies. No idea if excess luggage so another 29 minutes added to the delay it was unprofessional and not fit for purpose. We had to cancel our table reservation in the lounge, no shopping for the kids and world duty free, Gatwick Airport lost money. We got to the departure lounge and it was final call. How in the hell can these people have jobs or a contract. Avoid Any airline that uses MENZIES is hen you can get a good start to your summer holiday. Menzies I want compensation for the priority boarding. You’re not fit for purpose.....

I've been flying many times with AirBaltic without any issues. Reliable and in time.
This time they f-ked me up: they measured hand bags which are according to their rule max 8kg. As it was more they charged me 60€...
Reason for weight was the 3 bottles of spirts I bought at duty free!
A fee is ok for not following rules, but to charge 60€ which is same a a return checkin luggage with 23kg each is a penalty like I was riding a train without a ticket.
I paid 250€ for the ticket which was not any kind of low cost deal like Ryanair für 25 or so.
Air Baltic has lost my trust, shame on you Riga Airlines - never ever again..

My mom's Air Baltic flight from London to Riga was delayed by over 7 hours, with very little information or updates given to the passengers. By EU law she is entitled to compensation for this huge delay. When we first submitted our claim to Air Baltic, they eventually sent back a long email with excuses saying there had been technical issues etc, but with no mention of compensation. Technical issues are NOT a disqualification for compensation. For 3 months we have been trying to resolve this issue - return emails take weeks at a time, if they respond at all. We have gotten as far as getting them to acknowledge that compensation is due, and giving them bank details, but have yet to hear back a month later despite follow up emails and phone calls asking them even to simply to confirm receipt of the information.
When I had a delayed flight with Easyjet, the compensation process took about 2 minutes and I received the money within a couple of weeks. This is Air Baltic trying to cheat customers out of money that is legally due to them by hoping to make it such a long and painful process that they will give up. Disgraceful.

This airline is clearly a customer hater one: rude, impolite staff. The ground staff women were laughing at us when they forced my family to ‘double check’ the weight of the hand luggage at Riga airport. They are cheaters and they only want to rip off passengers. Our luggage was checked in Budapest airport and was fine. Interestingly our luggage ‘gained’ 4!!! Kgs plus at Riga. What a disgrace of an airline! The staff speaks poor English. They behave like soviet robots. They humiliated us and other passengers by laughing at us. Never ever fly with them again!

Just got rebooked due to airBullshits efficient booking system. Checked in to a flight yesterday, got confirmation with my seat and everything. When I went to drop off my luggage they tell me I’m on standby. Get to the gate, gate agent here in Tallinn extremely rude, they tell us they can’t board us. Get a call from their customer “service” agent and he’s a dipshit. They rebook for 7hrs later and arriving at midnight in BUD. Only explanation was bs about regulations and all airlines oversell flights. 👎🏽

First leg of Vilnius to Riga to Prague on June 10, 2019 was delayed and layover time was too short to reasonably be able to make second flight. Only 1 young woman at the gate to handle questions from 150 customers. Layover time was only ~30 minutes. It was easy enough to get another flight, but they had to book me on Lot Airlines and have me fly to different places.
It was a nightmare having them find our bags and bring them to lost and found.
Their checked baggage allowance is only 20kg when every other airline is 23kg. This is a poor gimmick and suggests that they only want your money.
Not enough direct flights. Poor service. Avoid and fly a reputable airline.

Flight over on Air Baltic air from London to Riga was ok..no extra bag charges on the way over. No problems really at all other than that they did not open the check in counter until 45 minutes before departure which meant there were nearly a hundred people running to get to the gate to make the departure time. It was a very long run! Apparently at London Gatwick the staffing is by a 3rd party and it is clearly lacking.
The real problems began on our return flight from Riga to Reykjavik Iceland. . . .
We had the Same exact hand baggage and same contents as on the outbound yet at that return gate in Riga we were literally accosted by two female attendants who demanded that we put our carry-on baggage through their size and weight scale. By the way, they did this with many passengers; several had the same issue as we did. These other passengers were yelling about the inconsistency as they were all on their return flights also. One woman was crying about the abuse she experienced.
We had two bags that were over weight by less than 1 kg. The blonde female attendant militantly yelled, "you are overweight, you must pay 120 euros NOW!" We could have rearranged the contents in the bags if we had less pressure but she just kept repeating it and yelling the same thing over and over. The two attendants kept moving toward us crowding us and pointing us to the desk where "we must pay right now!" It was insane. They are so militant that I could not think straight. It was terribly embarrassing and intimidating.
My main complaints are about the inconsistent treatment for international travelers. They knew were flying to the USA via their partner, Icelandic Air, which doesn't have such crazy small weight restrictions (8kg for a combined max weight for both handbag and carryon!) My other complaint is the incredible militant demeanor of their staff. They have zero customer service which you can see in their many reviews online.
To add insult to injury they misplaced our bags on the return flight. Hopefully, we will get our bags today . . . .
My advice is to pay the price for a reputable airline and save yourself all the hassles and intimidation you will experience with Baltic air!

Delayed by 1 hour on the way from London Gatwick to Riga (apparently delayed connecting flight before ours)
Delayed 30 minutes on the way back (plain was boarded and ready to go on time, but apparently there were busy skies over Europe)
Next time booking with normal airline, who can plan and secure flight slots properly..

Worst airline ever! I travelled with a 4 months old baby and were unable to check-in. Apparently, airbaltic has canceled our flight without feeling the need to inform us (I could still see the booking on the day of the flight and received a check-in invitation mail). They refused to refund a new ticket I had to buy.

I Am speechless
I have never experienced anything like this in my almost 10 years as a frequent traveler.
My girlfriend and i had booked a flight from Oslo, Norway to Liepaja, Latvia.
We would have 1 stop in Riga and then continue 1 hour and 15 min later.
When we arrive in Riga airport, our flight have been delayed from 23:15 to 01:30 - Okay things happen and we go and get our self a couple of drink while we wait.
Around 01:00 we go to the gate and wait for boarding to start.
Flight is now moved to 01:45
Boarding starts at 01:35 and everyone is in the plane at 01:45.
Then we are waiting for 10 min inside the plane until 8-10 more people are entering the plane.
The plane takes of at 02:00.
My girlfriend asks the stewardess if we have been delayed because of these 8-10 people clearly coming from another plane.
The Stewardess says that yes the reason why the plane was delayed was because we needed to have the rest of the passengers boarded.
We very fast figured out that these 8-10 people could only come from 1 plane and that plane landed as scheduled.
So button line is that AirBaltic on purpose delayed an airplane 2 hours and 45 min so they could fill it with 8-10 more people.
Our flight was only half an hour and maybe 300 km.
It would have been faster for us if we would have taken a bus to Liepaja after we landed in Riga.
Had we been informed about the delay (that clearly was on purpose) then we would had taken a bus instead.
I asked the Stewardess for a free Gin and Tonic after this treatment but she refused.
I told them both that it would have been a good idea if they gave everyone a free Gin and Tonic, which they of course also refused.
I would like to finish off with saying that, Not at anytime was it mentioned from Airbaltic that they were sorry about the delay.
NOTHING but silence.
I felt like i was back in old Soviet union - If no one says anything, then clearly nothing happened.
Never again will i spend as much as 1 EUR on AirBaltic.
They don´t care about their customers, so i hope that the customers will stop caring for them.
Sorry for the long story!

First time with airBaltic and definitly last! Our flight from Baku was 5 minutes delayed, and this resulted in half the passengers didn’t reach their connecting flights.
The service is horrible and we got compensated 5 euro, that we could use for ‘coffee and a sandwich’. In which airport can you get a coffee and a sandwich for 5 euro?! Do not fly airBaltic.

I have been excessively charged 60€ for 2 kgs extra while other passengers on the same flight with bigger and heavier hand luggage have NOT been charged. The plane was NOT full at all and my 2kgs didn't change nothing! I will NOT fly again with airBaltic.
