The initial telephone contact to set up an interpreter for a home visit went very smoothly and the facilitator was positive and helpful.
The Interpreter arrived on time, was professional, respectful, and calm in his manner.

The interpreter was a last minute booking (at day's end) and was need for the start of the next morning.

The title says it all - I booked a translator to be present for an appointment, they confirmed the date and time and then did not show for the appointment, leaving the patient hanging. When I contacted Able Translations, they attempted to contact the interpreter, who did not answer their calls. The interpreter had also confirmed 24 hours before with Able. I received no follow up after I asked for this information to be passed onto a supervisor. However, I will note that when I called Able's call center in an attempt to find out where the translator was, the woman I spoke to was very kind and apologetic.

Average service. Several episodes of late cancellations and no-shows. It would be helpful to be notified if an interpreter can NOT be found for an upcoming appointment.

I have been using Able Translations for years and have never had an issue. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

I suggest that when you are having difficulty finding an interpreter for a specific language, that you update your client on the progress. I had to call in several times to get updates on my most recent booking. Regular updates would have been helpful.

Everything was avarage. Not good or bad.

Be VERY specific - Ask them to reiterate what you would like so you are sure that they understand your instructions.

Often let down by the service. Unfilled orders and empty promises. If you are lucky to book an interpreter AND they actually show up for the assessment it usually goes well. The trick is getting someone booked and then having them actually show for the assessment.

Firstly, I think that interpreters need to understand that in a Return to Work (RTW) Services program there are days when clients only participate in their exercises. However, we need interpreters to be close by in case clients have questions or concerns. If an interpreter decides to sit up in the waiting room (after being asked by the therapist to remain in the gym) the client is going to be less likely to express themselves to the treatment team.
Similarly, we need interpreters to stay until the client has left the clinic. Frequently, interpreters will leave before the client (before the end of the scheduled appointment time), which leaves the client unable to communicate with the treatment team. If the client thinks of a question they need to ask before they leave we need the interpreter to be on hand.
Often, we have interpreters who fail to be impartial. It makes our job much more challenging when this happens. I think there needs to be a strong focus on being impartial as both parties want to assist the client and muddying the water does not help anyone. We recognize that our clients have pain, which can be very challenging. However, if we allow our clients to focus on pain then they won't be able to move past it.

I usually always use Able Translations, but am not happy that you have changed that you can't do immediate conference calls, that you have to get an interpreter, and then call me back, I am very busy on the phone and for WCB it is easier to stay on the line and get the interpreter and the worker all at once, and saves time, as I am not always available, and am on the phone a lot during the day.

At times, the interpreters are advocating for clients. Some do an excellent job of doing exactly their job of translating my words into the language, some interpret more than what is necessary. Most interpreters I have worked with have been on time and consistent, but I would prefer if they were less attached to the client.

I found the translator very professional and adept at both translating and helping to put our client at ease with the process.

Please review Able Translations google reviews. Able does not pay their Inteprters. Many are vulnerable individuals, elderly, new comers to Canada, and those on fixed incomes. My father being one. He has worked for Able for nearly 10 years. Yet has not recieved payment for the last years. He has gone several occasions at the request of Annabelle the owner. Only to find the payment not there. He has been laughed at and mocked on several occasions by the sorriest collection of losers I have ever seen under one roof.
Sadly they continue to be used by some of the biggest Government Agencies such as TD & WSIB.
Please be aware and spread the word. Do not be one of those exposed when this exploitation service is brought to the national stage.

Good but at times I worry that things get lost in translation or there is other conversations going on between worker and employer.

Very difficult to book a time with an interpreter. I would be told that I would be called/emailed with an update and then would never hear back. I'd then have to call back myself, wait on hold for numerous minutes and then be told again that an interpreter had yet to be booked and they would keep me updated. Again I would not be updated and would have to call back. Eventually one of your staff was great and actually found an interpreter for me and kept me updated throughout. That whole process took about 2 weeks.
The interpreter we got was good and on time. My only complaint is that she could not write in Cantonese.

Good service; delayed.
Appointment was set for 12:30 pm. At 12:50 pm, as the interpreter had not arrived yet, I called to find out what was going on. I was advised that the interpreter had been in the lobby since 12. I'm not sure why she didn't use the directory to call the client to be allowed into the building. I had provided the client's name as well as my own phone number to Able when booking. In any case, the interpretation service itself was good.

Overall the interpreters we have had are wonderful. The only issue is when we call into the ABLE to book, there never seem to be anyone to answer the phone. We have to call multiple times to get a live person and not just a answering machine. 8 out 10 times we get the answering machine.

When things go wrong they really go wrong. We have had booking and then their is no translator, or there have been times when we request the interpreter book the appointment on our behalf, and then the day of the appointment comes and there is no interpreter and no family. When called to ask what happened, no one booked the appointment. We have had some interpreters who were completely inappropriate, translating only what they wanted to translate, or giving their perspective on what's going on when translating. Translators who have been late, or not showed completely while the families are here.

Unfortunately Able is unreliable. Some translators are amazing and others are horrendous. The service itself is average, most appointments are booked appropriately, but a number of translators have come on the wrong day or not at all.

I have been working with your organization for over a year now and in the beginning there were some hiccups but we have grown together and I am confident in time we will have a smooth less transition.
Your booking agents are excellent - especially Paula. My negatives are the billing process(there are some mistakes in the billing), and when you let me know last minute you can't fill a job(which is not too often) but stressful when we find out the day of when I submitted a request weeks in advance(a work in progress).
I am overall pleased and impressed with your organization and services. I would recommend you to other agencies.
