This morning I rang Able to book for someone to come and treat a mouse problem in the house my daughter rents in central London. I particularly informed them that I would be driving over an hour to get to the property and they said I could pay extra for a two hour time slot as I had limited time before I had to return. I waited at the property from 12 till 2 and it wasn't until just after 2 that the engineer bothered to ring me to say he was going to be up to two hours late and so might not arrive till 4pm. I couldn't wait that long but my daughter said she could get to the property at 5. They were not prepared to come at that time so I had a wasted day, both expensive on time,fuel and parking and the mouse problem still untreated!

Booked engineer to come between 8am to 12pm to fix a boiler. No one turn up, called them up, they said someone is coming. After a while they call me to say that they had two engineers, one of them doesn't work on Saturdays and the other one doesn't have a van. Judging from previous reviews, I think these people take the job and never turn up. Anyway, the whole Saturday was wasted waiting. I could have spent that time looking for other engineers to make sure the boiler is fixed.
My advice to a company, let the people know asap if you cannot come.

Fast and effective but expensive.
We paid way over the odds by using this company.
The price quoted in the confirmation email does not include VAT. So I got a shock when I had to pay. They should change that and make it clearer.
If you use this company, check the rates as weekend jobs cost more, ask for the price inc. VAT.
Just ask lots of questions.

I can’t comment on the quality of the work because no work was actually completed! I am appalled by the lack of customer service and the dishonesty of this company.
I telephoned to get a quote for someone to come out and unblock an outside drain at the bottom of my household guttering. I was told the cost for this work would be £105. I was asked for my card details and told the money would be debited from my account on completion of the work. I was then told an engineer would be me with me that same day before 4pm.
I later received a voicemail asking for me to call the back which I did, and waited 20 minutes on hold to be told the engineer will now be with me between 5 and 6pm. When the engineer didn’t arrive by 6pm I called to ask where he was but got no answer. I had to ask my father to come to my house and wait for the engineer to hopefully turn up so that I wouldn’t miss an appointment. At 7.10pm the engineer finally arrived and looked at the bottom of my guttering only to find there was no pipework to actually unblock, and that the guttering just went into the ground. He then wrote out a bill for £105 + VAT for the call-out which my father signed (not knowing that I had been told over the phone that I would only be charged on completion of work and that there was no call-out charge - which is clearly stated on their website too I might add!)
A copy of this bill was not left with my father by the engineer so he asked to take a photo of it as evidence to show me.
I called at 7am the next morning to query why I was being charged for work that did not actually take place. The man on the phone thought this was odd and told me somebody would call me back within half an hour. I did not get a call back. 3 hours later I called again and was told that the accounts team don’t work at weekends and so they would call me back by 12 noon on Monday. Surprise surprise, I did not get a call back by this time so I called them today and was passed from pillar to post before reaching somebody who then informs me that they will not be giving me a refund because my father signed the paperwork (something he did on my behalf because they were 3 hours late and I was not at home by the time they arrived!) They could see from their records that no work had been completed and they already had my card details – I was not given the option to pay cash. He then goes on to say that there is a charge of 75% of the total cost quoted for any investigative work – a charge that was never given to me on the phone nor quoted by the engineer onsite. I then questioned why I had been billed for the full amount if it should have only been 75% of the total. I was told this was an “error” on the engineer’s part. This is completely dishonest and they would have had no problem in charging me the full £105 if I hadn’t phoned to complain.
I have asked for a full refund owing to a) the fact that the engineer was late; b) when he did arrive no work was actually carried out; c) I was not informed in advance over the phone or by the engineer who came that there would be any call-out or investigative charges; and d) I was charged the full amount and not the seemingly made-up "investigative" charge I have subsequently been told about.
My refund request has thus far been refused and I have not been given any contact details to raise my complaint any further.

Pete came out was very helpful and reassuring. Walked me round my property to check entry and exit routes the rodents were using. Put down the bait in my attic returned 10days later also gave me advice on stopping any further infestation.

Wish I had read these reviews before using this company. Waited a week for an appointment to sort wasps in my young grandchildren’s garden. Engineer arrived just after the end of the 4 hour time slot.
Engineer very polite and helpful but could not do anything as could not find a nest. Despite having told salesperson on booking that we could not find a nest and that they were feeding off a tree in a neighbours garden he said they are just feeding off the tree. His advice was to try and find the nest or failing that get rid of tree! £115 later and still have the wasps. Must admit he said if we can find the nest he will remove it free of charge - I have no complaint against his service just the company.

Pest control handler was prompt, efficient and took very good care throughout. Talked me through process of how he would dismantle wasp nest and what to expect.

Contacted Able Pest Control on the 26th Sept, after finding small swarm of wasps in loft. Had to ring 3 times kept being put on hold.
Explained situation, told I had to find the point of entry of the wasps before the Engineer could visit. After looking around property noticed wasps around front Eves, made contact again. told engineer would be out that day, cost £84
Pest Control Engineer Craig arrived after a call stating arrival time, very good. Agreed wasp area, using extendable pole sprayed chemical around area wasps were, only took 10 minutes. Don't use ladders anymore, or go in loft. Craig said that there was a guarantee, check in 7 days. very pleasant guy.
Cost £100.80 (original quote did not include VAT, not made clear very poor), reading Invoice any further call outs were £54. Emailed Abel about pricing NO REPLY.
Wasps still outside and in loft but not as bad. Think I will get out a local firm who have a ladder and clear it up for good. Rather disappointed with the Abel Experience.

I obtained a telephone quote from these people for a cat flap installation weeks and weeks ago. They gave me a relatively competitive price having taken details of the window over the phone. I had assumed comprehensive details as I asked whether there was anything else they needed to know. When I said but won’t that change after the survey, the woman on the phone said, no absolutely not. She was keen to secure my business as I said I was talking to other companies.
They also said installation would follow 3 to 5 working days later. Note - working not actual days. Note also their prices are quoted ex vat even though talking to consumers. The quote was £250 once I’d added vat.
I waited in for the survey appointment and half way through the day they called to cancel, offering a further appointment a week later. Given how long I had already waited (and my cat is desperate to go outside) I accepted. They arrived on the postponed day but later than the agreed time slot.
3 working/ 5 actual days later I had heard nothing so I called to find out when they would be installing. The chap said he’d only just received the details but the price was going up to £325 plus vat - ie £390, it had nearly doubled. The reason, apparently was that my double glazing was argon filled. Why had they not asked this at the time? It’s a bog standard window!
I spoke to a manager but all he would say is that the quote is always subject to site survey. He had no interest in addressing the fact I had been told it would not change. In fact he seemed quite used to the fact the price goes up after survey. Absolute cowboys!
Really frustrating not being able to respond directly to a reply.
Typically Able have tried to put a spin on on things. I was most definitely told, when I booked, that the price would not change. That’s a fact. Yes I was offered a reduction today. Within 2 minutes of being on the phone they changed the price from £325 plus vat to £295 plus vat. What does that tell you? It is still a significant increase.
I have since contacted a different glazier who has advised that being argon filled doesn’t actually make much difference to the price. They have also offered me a much cheaper price (with argon).
My advice: Try and find a local family business rather than one of these national organisations who don’t care about anything other than maximising their profit.

Requested attendance with a weeks notice for a quotation on an electrical survey. I advised the operator that the location in question was an hours drive away and would need a guaranteed attendance to make the journey. This was confirmed though the company only offer three hour time slots. Agreed on a 1 - 4pm slot.
On the day I made my way up to the location for 1pm, sat waiting until 4.20pm when I recieved a call explaining that they were not going to make the allocated time slot (...). The engineer then proceeded to explain "Though I'm pleased to offer you a new time slot of 4pm - 7pm." Obviously I refused as I had just wasted half a working day waiting for the attendance (including driving time).
I then receive a phone call on the way home, pestering me to rebook, to which I refused.
On my return to work i was then contacted a third time, this coincided with a cancellation at the location, so I took them up on their offer again (stupidly), for a 12 - 4pm slot "Guaranteed". (even longer timescale to ensure there would be no complications). They cancelled on me after driving to the park and waiting again.
Avoid this company at all costs unless you want to waste hours of your time.

It is simply unacceptable to quote a two hour appointment time and then ring back 30 mins later to say that there actually aren't any appointments until Monday.I have now had the job done by a local plumber so I no longer need Able Group's services and neither will I solicit them in the future.

Atrocious, awful, don't even deserve a star. I waited for 5 hours, then the guy wouldn't do the job, he was fairly good at sharp intakes of breath though and at tripling the price. Also kept me on hold for ever when I tried to find out where they were. Appalling service.

I phoned that day and had someone round in a couple of hours. Nice man fixed the problem, not only that, he kindly fixed a couple of other issues I had for no charge. Good staff, good company.

We will NEVER call this Company again. We were broken into during the evening of 13th September. We called to have our shop boarded up. Were sent a confirmation email advising that the engineer would attend between 12 and 4. When 4pm approached we called to see what had happened. Apparently he would not be attending and they would come on Monday. This left us with a shop, on a village high street with absolutely NO security both Saturday and Sunday. No one thought that it necessary to call us to tell us that they could not get hold of any of the engineers and were simply not going to turn up. At 4pm on a saturday afternoon it is near impossible to get an alternative company to attend. We are now left to do the job ourselves! One bonus - we do not have to give this appalling company any of our hard earned money!!!!
