I ordered a much wanted 1st ed book off their website a few days ago. My credit card went through & a while later I received an email from the seller telling me they haven't had that book in their inventory since 2016. I just checked & it is still listed on ABEbooks website. Not good business practice.

I ordered a book and unfortunately didn’t see the seller credibility until afterwards anyway it’s been saying waiting for pickup for over a month and no response back from the seller on any messages as to when it will ship. Basically they are going to keep the shipping costs (which were rather high over $30 in the lower 48) due to abebooks being owned by Amazon their isn’t a way to get ahold of any support. Luckily I’m out only $30 ish

Worse experience ever whilst shopping online! I ordered a book for the first time from Abebook because it was not available in my local book store. The seller sent me the wrong book (cost me £50). After days of chasing and formally complaining about the wrong order, I was asked to return the book at my own cost in order to get a refund!! My city is in lockdown and I won’t be going to the post office for their mistake! Amazon delivered the book to me faster than their reply to my complaint email - that says enough!

I ordered a book, I paid over 100 dollars for it and I paid extra for quick shipping. They are 15 business days past due and till this day I have not received my book. Customer service is awful. Do not purchase anything from this site.

AbeBooks could be much better. I don't trust them to deliver their items - period. They've "Lost" three books on me within the last year, and are sloppy with their listings (e.g. wrong ISBN, Title, etc...) There are plenty alternatives to using this company. A shame.

Irish Bookseller. A nightmare! Ordered via Abe Books. I selected 28.65 shipping for what was to be 2 day delivery. The total order was 53.00. The book did not arrive. I sent messages... no reply. I sent messages via Abe Books to the seller no reply. Basically they do not reply. The book finally arrived with media mail USPS with 3.33 postage. I am now sending messages with out a reply for the refund of 25.62 which was the overage. I was surprised a seller would accept / charge 28.65 for shipping and then send the item with 3.33 postage. They apparently pocketed the money. Horrible experience. Abe Books is a company I have used before. Although they have not been very helpful on this issue. Do not order from this bookseller.

It pains me to give this company one star. I ordered a NEW, hardback book and received a filthy, torn and yellow paged paperback. It’s so disgusting I can hardly touch it😡🥵. The hard copy I ordered cost around $50 but shipping was an understandable additional $25.00 due to the weight of the book. With tax I paid $82.00 for this hideous item. Do NOT do business with this group. I not only feel cheated but insulted since the book was a gift for a lovely woman I care deeply about!

A book I ordered was delivered and clearly marked "Examination Copy" and "Not for Resale". I had to pay for the book but did not receive a full copy. This is clearly fraudulent on the part of AbeBooks and its third party vendor, UniversalTextbook. I requested a refund but was not give one. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! They provide a less than valid copy of the book and are making money off of fraudulent sales. If you have experienced the same problem, and have documentation to prove it, reach out to me. Looking to maybe get a class action lawsuit going.

Just simply awful, bought a book said was going to take 2.5 weeks which was ok because that was right when my class started. Contacted several times the week prior to schedule delivery for a tracking number, and never got even a single reply. Then go to cancel the order after they missed the expected date, and now have to wait 8 more days. Meanwhile my class has started and have been forced to but off of another site without refund from here. Zero communication through the entire process, I will never buy a book from abebooks again...complete scam!!

I have never been so upset by an online seller, I paid for an expensive rare book for £120.00 and received the wrong book For £1.00 which I returned with proof of postage receipt and they said they’re conditions did not cover an untracked tracked return, it is appalling, the difference should be refunded between the two books the 1.00 paper back and the 120.00 hard back are substantially different in price, I’d be happy to just be refunded the difference £119!. I photographed and sent an image of what was sent to me the packaging and the weight etc and the 1.00 values they had insured it for. Luckily I paid by credit card and my bank refunded the amount to me but buyers beware, they are cowboys, not trustworthy, also always use you credit card and don’t buy off sites that don’t use PayPal as they are generally not able to use it as they cannot have a PayPal account I am beginning to think.

I used abesbooks to purchase a $250 book which was a big mistake! The book i received had no resemblance to the actual title i orginally ordered. The book i received is $3.99. I looked over the invoice they sent me and everything looked right besides the title and price of the book. This book was sent from Irish Book Sellers. I haven't heard anything from either site. Sounds like a scam to me!

This merchant is straight up a scam. They don't even hide it. They will take your money. Including money paid for expedited shipping. They will hand over the order to some vendor and they will simply blame the vendor for everything. I thought I would give them a chance (instead of buying from Amazon all the time). Now I know why Amazon is the best - at least they deliver. Abebooks should call themselves I-scam-you.com

Buying books from this site is always a crap shoot. You never know what you will get when you order a book. Few pictures, poor descriptions make it a mystery what you get. My experience has been horrible both times I tried to purchase from them.

Wish I had read these reviews before ordering. Bought 6 books and 4 of them, although being described as In Very Good Condition, are absolutely disgusting. Covers damaged, spines all creased and pages brown and discoloured. The 3 worse were from Awesome Books and Bahamut Media. Wish I put the money I spent towards buying new even at 3 times the price.

AMAZON knows- we had a great conversation.
DO NOT- I repeat- DO NOT purchase anything from this company! They will not help you. They took hundreds of my dollars and gave me the run around.
They don't deserve 1 star- that's the only way you can post a review. Good, solid- reputable companies do not do business this way!
Unprofessional- FRAUD. Please do not get taken advantage of!

I returned an access card which ended up being the wrong access card - error on my part for not double checking, I simply copied and searched the ISBN so that is frustrating that the incorrect product came up for me. I returned it within a week of receiving it and followed up here about a month later since I didn't get my refund. The only response I get is we did not receive your return over and over again. Thieves.

Had ordered books from various booksellers on Abebooks in the past with relatively reliable results. This time, tried to purchase a $125 out of print book from "Irish Booksellers" - paid in full, didn't arrive after 1 month. Contacted seller through Abebooks- "just give it a little longer". Two Months later - no book. THEN I saw the 1.1 star rating of "Irish Booksellers" on Google. Same scam repeated 50 times at least. Reported them to Abebooks, and was provided a refund through Abebooks... but the "Irish Booksellers" is STILL listing books on ABE.... including the one that I had tried to buy.... with a "5-star rating" on ABE. I have lost confidence in Abebooks entirely.

Same story with my order!
Never buy from AbeBooks!!Never buy from AbeBooks! Never!
They dont support the buyer in the way they should and let the seller like Irish Book Sellers rip people off. If you get a bad book , you have to pay return postage that is never returned. I have bought an used old dirty book for 16$ plus 7€ for sending (book price new was 18$). The book has coffee spots all over, marks on each side. Never mentioned in the discription.
Nie, nie hier bestellen!!! Geht in den Buchladen um die Ecke, wenn es geht. Leider gab es dieses Buch nirgends sonst...

BUYER BEWARE IRISH BOOKSELLERS via ABEBOOKS!
AbeBooks does not protect buyers from the fraudulent activities of this disreputable seller. Read the previous reviews. I am not alone in my experience.
Irish Booksellers via AbeBooks sent me a $15 paperback (via amazon.com!) instead of the $45 audio cd version. (Note: I did originally confirm it was the audio cd version w Seller.) I immediately returned the incorrect item and advised the seller & AbeBooks. But the Seller refused to issue a refund and AbeBooks refused to honour my repeated requests for a refund.
This is disgraceful customer service. Irish Booksellers + AbeBooks = Fraudulent

I paid 50$ for a book on April 13, 2020 and was said to have my product by or on May 16th, 2020. It is now June 18th, 2020 and I still do not have my product. The seller wouldn't respond to any of my messages to try to fix the issue nor could you reach anyone through the customer service number listed online. Coincidentally the number was out of commission. I filed a complaint online and informed them that I'd like a refund and to provide a new card or payment method to receive my refund with since my previous card used is no longer active... but that went as high a the ceiling. I would't advise ANYONE to purchase any products from this company unless your have money to just GIVE AWAY.

I ordered 2 books from Abe Books and they were unable to ship my books since they were no longer available. They did however charge my credit card and I am trying to get a refund but that is becoming a major headache for me. My advice is to stay away from this company. Their customer service is terrible. I'm surprised to find out that they're are owned by Amazon. I expect more from this company. Will never buy from them again!

I ordered a book from Irish Booksellers. It was described as "New". It took over a month to arrive and was nothing like New. It had water damage, stains on the pages and heavy wear. There is simply no way an honest person could have described it as new. Now, if I want a refund, I have to return it to the USA. But I will lose money on that, have to go to a post office (most around here are closed). More to the point, there are a number of reviews of this bookseller below suggesting I may not get a refund so I will have no book and no refund. I am simply not going to incur the risk and expense of sending a book back in those circumstances. And why should I have to? They should refund my money first (because they sent the wrong thing) and if they want the book back, they should send a courier or a postage-paid envelope and I'd be happy to stick it in a post box.
Update: about 2 and a half months after I initially ordered this book, I finally have my money back. This has taken many many emails to the seller and to Abebooks. I do not want to have to invest hours and hours of my time to sort out issues like this when the bookseller was plainly at fault. As a result, I will be very hesitant about ordering from Abebooks in the future.

I ordered and paid over $30 dollars for a softcover book that arrived poorly packaged and subsequently with a broken spine. This means the book is basically worthless as a collectible item. When I demanded a partial refund, they offered me a slimy $2.50. I will never buy off of AbeBooks again and I recommend YOU do not either.
