I tried to end my contract in May due to relocation, I received confirmation of my request yet at a later date they have decided that despite outlining why I wanted to leave and going through all the formal cancellation procedures that said they will charge me an extra months notice period. Not particularly clean either! I would advise to stay away if possible. The staff on site however are very friendly it's a shame that their upper management are unhelpful.

They won't give refund despite not being open for months, and giving plenty of notice. They only let you leave after 3 payments notice. Their gyms are v poor and unhygienic anyway. Best stay away.

Very poor company to deal with
They have a reputation to be hard to cancel and they’re living up to it.
They Have had the Notice period but they only want a notice period where they’ve had money from their customers.
Then they offer to let me stay after this
Try and cancel and they come out fighting!
Strangely other people I know have been allowed to cancel or have they not got to them on the list yet?

A nightmare to contact anyone to cancel membership, no contact phone numbers available only messaging, and they take such a long time to reply. I still have no idea when I will be out of my contract and can forget about this place.
I don't think they take customer service seriously, I would not recommend them to anyone, and I will be using alternatives in the future.

Yep i fell for all that spill.
when joining i explained i was only in area for 6 month no problem they said just give months notice before you leave area as yo can cancel if you move.
I gave 6 weeks notice handed over to reception .when i left i cancelled dd
They say they never received my notice and insisted i pay another months payment . Be aware you have to have moved out of area before you give notice meaning you pay an extra month for nothing .
customer service nil

Awful company to deal with.
We ordered a trampoline, we received half a trampoline and half a TP tree house. You can't contact by phone just on line. By the time I got an answer the missing parts had disappeared from their wharehouse, they would not action a refund until they had received the goods back and it took them a month to arrange to collect. It was as though we were at fault!

I am another to have been taken in by their scamming cancellation policy. The gym owner/ employees promise you membership and no mention of termination fees then leave it to their Shirebrook follow up team to make life hell with harassing emails weekly thereafter and constant threats of escalating costs. I would be very interested to hear from anyone that has taken this shower to court, this sort of harassing practice needs to be ended once and for all

Terrible disgusting company DO NOT JOIN GYM AT ALL COST. Sadly in August 2018 we made a mistake by joining our elderly retired mother who has a lot of health problems so she can get some light walking exercise. Unfortunately she fell seriously ill with chronic rheumatoid arthritis from November 2018 and had been bed ridden and housebound with chronic pain and on lots more medication. January 2020 we've come to conclusion that mum will never be able to go back to the gym even after all the hospital treatment as she is too ill. All membership payments were made up to date. However upon requesting to cancel the membership SD are demanding a 3 month notice period after 17 months of membership even in these circumstances. Simply don't care attitude. They say they make exceptions but these are all lies. None of my family and friends will ever use SportsDirect Fitness ever again. I will also let everyone know on Social Media of this companies disgusting behaviour. Avoid.

So... after being made redundant, I have had to cancel my membership, they still want 3 months after cancellation, whats the point letting them know that I have been made redundant, there’s no benefit. I would have rejoined once sorted, but not now...

This is a terrible company! They entice you with fairly low rates but the gyms are old and shabby; with poor equipment and hygiene. Then when you try to leave they give you a one calendar month clause so even if you give a months notice and it’s not from the 31... they will charge you extra 4 months instead of 3. Please... do not join this gym! They have no morality and will not see kindness or reason; just a way to extract as much money as possible! Terrible terrible terrible!

Good price, but faulty equipment is never fixed. Salisbury gym had a broken smith rack when I joined. I was told it was getting fixed. 6 months later it still wasn’t fixed. Mediocre rowing machines with foot straps that need tightening every 500m. One step machine, very old. On a plus side, they have updated the spin bikes in the sweat box spin studio.
I eventually gave up and went to snap fitness, cost is £5 more a month but it is so worth it to have gym equipment that works well and a better selection.

Disgraceful... Told I was getting a 12 month contract and it would be terminated at the end of the 12 months.. Only to find out 2 months later that I'm still paying for a contract I no longer want to be in.. When I ring the gym and speak to someone I'm then told that I can cancel my Rolling contract but have to pay a further 3 months... Hmmmmmm why??? Never again

very bad, the online booking system is very unfair and bad, in case someone book in and don't attend will get strike for a month so can not use the booking system anymore...There was a guy on booked lessons but he got strike (it happened to him not for the first time), other people had similar issue (the innocent people get strikes like they were guilty) so they can not book in online anymore....he had to ask staff at desk to book him in for some lessons...last time they did book him wrong...they missed some lessons and booked him 1 month in advance...unwanted...upgraded taps in showers have now just one ,save water' press button with no possibility to adjust water temperature, water unpleasantly hot water (horrible, they think people in shower are so bad they waste water and can not switch off the water after they are finished) ...no shelves for shampoo etc...one guy gave there 3 shelves as a gift to the shower, they got lost all of them in a month after maintenance did ,it's job'...missing watches on walls, temperature on classes often too hot...some equipment faulty...
you know, it's a cheap gym (Rugby) for just a £20 (£25) per a month but some things ,really sucks'...the car park surface is damaged and two way one car narrow entrance road long has up to 10 inches deep holes in it (Jan 2020), some holes were recently repaired (couple of months ago, but the ,cheapy' surface fix is already getting worse and worse), it's a danger for cars (must use even pavement to get to the car park)...at the desk will welcome you guy with soft manner and red painted nails, but this is another story...do you want the truth?...you got the truth..there is new refurbished male sauna now for about a month but it already stinks badly (compare to women's one)...

As is already demonstrated by the AWFUL ratings this gym already has I also strongly recommend not joining this gym. The contract clauses are disgraceful and you will be billed for 3 months when you cancel a ONE MONTHS MEMBERSHIP! That’s £65 to leave a one month membership contract and £10 for every time they feel like adding and if you try to pay online it doesn’t even work. Disgusting con artists AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Sports Direct fitness Rugby
Tired, not well maintained, staff seem uninterested and lazy, not a good image for a fitness club. Except the PT’s, they’re very good, the rest seem to sit around with their feet up on their phones. They don’t even scan your card on the way in now!
Machines / facilities often out of order and take a long one to fix.
Car park in poor condition, potholes and very muddy in bottom spaces.

Machines never work and place is always filthy. AVOID. After not attending and cancelling membership have been given a cancellation fee which was never told about when joining. After reading reviews i checked terms and conditions where it briefly mentions a notice which memebers arent informed of. Term 6.1 is the funniest of them all as 'the Contract can only be cancelled in very limited circumstances' where customers have to have their reason for cancellation verified. An absolute disgrace.

Agree with others, worse gym going.
Prices are around the same as other budget gyms, but the facilities are way poorer. The Glasgow Argyle St one usually has 20% of their machines not working. They don't have aircon and are located in the basement of a large hotel therefore it is often unbearably hot.
If you take out a membership - also take a copy of the T & C's as they update them and then point you to them when you come to cancel - the new ones, not the ones you signed.
I thought I had cancelled last year just realised this month when I was sorting out my finances that they have been continuing to take the monies from my account - stupidly I emailed to cancel last year and didn't receive a response so no real come back. However then taking 4 months notice is a joke (3 full months, so if you cancel on the second of the month this equates to 4 months). I believe this to be an amended, un-communicated term and condition so looking into breach of contract.
(previously read you must give SportsDirect.com Fitness 3 calendar months cancellation notice), not stating it was 3 calendar months from an arbitrary date they decide.
