Kim Kardashian's Legal Inspiration

Kim Kardashian’s move into the legal world marks a surprising new phase of her career to date. Best known for her reality TV appearances and lucrative business ventures, including skin care, perfumes, and body-shaping garments, she’s now carving out a new path in the legal industry, shaped by personal conviction and a growing dedication to criminal justice reform.
Kim Kardashian’s interest in law grew from both her family background and a pivotal personal experience. Her father, Robert Kardashian, was a well-known lawyer involved in the infamous O.J. Simpson case; however, it was her hands-on work in criminal justice reform in 2018 when she successfully lobbied for the pardon of Alice Marie Johnson, a woman serving a life sentence for a non-violent drug offense.
Sources suggest that from that moment, Kim recognized the flaws of the U.S legal system, igniting her passion for change. She told
Vogue, “I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it.”
Unlike the traditional route of attending law school, Kardashian opted for California’s Law Office Study Program (
LOSP), an alternative path to becoming eligible for the bar. This program requires a four-year apprenticeship under the supervision of a registered attorney or judge with the California State Bar.
Her journey was not without hurdles—she faced multiple attempts at the “baby bar” exam, a critical step in the process. After six years of rigorous study, which, due to her challenging schedule, took longer than the standard duration, she graduated on May 21, 2025.
Her mentors celebrated her achievement, with Jessica Jackson noting, “It’s an absolute honor to stand here today, not just as mentors, but as witnesses to one of the most inspiring legal journeys we’ve ever seen (
Los Angeles Times).”
Kardashian’s legal education is a means to amplify her advocacy for criminal justice reform. She aims to address systemic inequities, with a focus on fair sentencing and rehabilitation.
As stated on
Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she wants to “fight for people who deserve a second chance” and is confident in using her TV show as a podium to speak up about legal reform.
